BBC Breakfast pulled off air as hosts rushed out of studio for evacuation

Naga Munchetty apologises over sound issues in report

BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were evacuated from the studio this morning, leaving fans concerned.

Naga and Charlie were speaking to reporter John Maguire about a Concord flight when the programme shot to rolling coverage from BBC News.

Viewers were not told of Charlie and Naga’s whereabouts as coverage focused on the Israel-Hamas war and they were very confused as to what was happening.

It later transpired that the hosts, as well as the crew, were evacuated from the Salford-based studio due to a fire alert.

After 15 minutes of BBC News reports, the show returned to normal with Naga, 48, sharing what had happened.

She said: “You’re returning to BBC Breakfast. Apologies, we had an evacuation in the building but we are back now with you.”

When the Concord report continued near the end of the instalment, reporter John quipped: “Concord geek interrupted, isn’t it, this morning?”

Luckily, the rest of the programme ran as planned until it finished at 9.15am for the Morning Live team to take over.

Fans flocked to Twitter when Naga and Charlie vanished from screens to voice their concerns about the situation.

Doddsy remarked: “A flagship programme suddenly goes off the air and the BBC doesn’t even bother telling the audience what is happening. Utterly useless. #BBCBreakfast.

He added: “After 15 minutes. When they joined BBC News all they had to say was ‘Our Salford building has been evacuated you’ll be staying with us until they return.’ Or a similar message on the screen. Their main remit is to ‘inform’.”

Another fan wrote: “Where has BBC Breakfast gone?? Naga and team?? What is this takeover, you were just in the middle of a Concord segment!? #BBCBreakfast.”

Tim Holt penned to his followers: “Building was evacuated – #bbcbreakfast is back. Phew!”

Mika shared: “They had an evacuation so that’s why they had to just quickly change to something that didn’t require going back to the studio.”

Keith said: “I hope everyone is OK on @BBCBreakfast. Odd switch to @BBCNews.”
