BBC Strictlys Angela Rippon dealt crushing blow hours before live show

Strictly: Angela Rippon on her slip during dance

Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon could end up leaving the BBC competition this weekend.

The 79-year-old, who is partnered up with Kai Widdrington, has already been in the bottom two twice – but could her time finally be up on Sunday?

The bookmakers have given Angela odds of 1/2 to be given the boot, while Annabel Croft is close behind her with odds of 9/4.

Sam Boswell from BetVictor stated: “In the elimination market, Angela Rippon is the favourite to be the next celebrity eliminated at 1/2.

“Angela and her dance partner Kai are dancing American Smooth to Tea for Two by Ella Fitzgerald.

“She has survived both dance-offs, firstly against Adam and last weekend against Krishnan. I think she’s at risk this weekend.”

He went on: “Close behind her is Annabel; she’s priced up at 9/4. She was the second favourite to be eliminated last weekend on 7/4, so it’s not looking good!

“Annabel and Johannes are dancing the American Smooth to Unchained Melody by Benedetta Caretta. They must give everything it takes to avoid the bottom two.”

Former Strictly star Brendan Cole has also shared his thoughts on whether Angela will make it past Blackpool Week and into the final.

He told Express.co.uk on behalf of Sky Bingo: “I don’t think Angela [Rippon] will make the final.

“Not after the last two weeks. In the first few weeks of the show, I thought wow, they do have the potential to go all the way.

“Week after week, she was getting better and better and it seemed like there was a real chance she could be in the final.

“It’s such an amazing achievement given how demanding the show is that Angela at 79-year-old is able to achieve like she is. It’s not often the show sees a contestant like her.”

Last weekend, Krishnan Guru-Murthy ended up being sent home after the judges decided to save Angela and Kai.

However, Brendan believes the wrong person was sent home as he added: “I don’t think anyone could argue that Krishnan [Guru-Murthy] should have stayed in the competition over Angela [Rippon] at the weekend.

“In the dance-off, I actually felt he started well and thought, ‘Oh hang on a second’. Angela on the other hand seemed to fall apart during last week’s dance-off, however, she picked up her game in this one and did a much better job, so I don’t think you can argue that Krishnan should have stayed over Angela.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight at 6.40pm on BBC One.
