However, when Freda discovers what Gemma has been up to she’s less than impressed.

The mum assures Freda they’ll still maintain links with other deaf people after the operation.

But, Freda’s not so sure and is hurt when Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) implies Aled with be normal once he has the implant.

Noticing how stressed Gemma is, Freda offers to take Aled for a walk.

However, she inadvertently overhears Bernie and Chesney discussing how time consuming they find attending deaf groups.

They agree they want Aled to speak properly and fit in with his peers.

Freda rushes off with Aled and Gemma soon begins to panic when they don’t return home.

Gemma opens up to Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and shares her fears Freda has taken her son.
