Coronation Street fans saw Nick Tilsley (played by Ben Price) join Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) in police hiding. But following his own son – Sam (Jude Riordan) – kidnapping, the Underworld boss will return to the cobbles. And in upcoming episodes, the character’s lives are put in danger once more as they get caught up in Harvey’s (Will Mellor) dangerous world. Official soap spoilers have revealed gunshots are fired – but who will be the victim(s)?
Having lied to Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac), Sam heads to see his father with a card for Father’s Day.
Unbeknownst to them all, Harvey is watching from the alley shadows.
Meanwhile, Sharon Bentley (Tracie Bennett) tries to talk Rhys out of Harvey’s plan but to no avail and as Nick and Sam head towards the car, a returning Leanne is horrified to heard the sound of gunshots.
Both Nick and Sam are sprawled out on the floor, and Leanne races towards them followed by Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), both fearing the worst.
Sharon watches on from a distance, heart in mouth.
Realising she cannot be near the scene, Sharon turns to do a runner but Rhys bursts in and stops her.
Later on, Leanne heads to court and realises she needs to stand up and tell the truth.
Back on the cobbles, Sharon is hiding in Rita Tanner’s (Barbara Knox) flat, having taken a beating from Harvey’s gang for trying to warn Leanne.
And when Rita returns, Sharon begs her to give her the £10,000 back so she can disappear and start a new life away from Weatherfield.
Rita understands Sharon’s plea and calls the bank to arrange the transfer.
Meanwhile, Nick speaks to Natasha and explains Leanne is going to give evidence in court.
He advises her and Sam to head back to London for their own safety and Gail Platt (Helen Worth) is surprised by Nick.
She, on the other hand, suggests her son should leave Leanne and choose Sam instead.
Viewers will see Harvey’s trial get underway, and when Leanne enters the witness box, she stares at her tormentor, will Leanne tell the truth?
Sharon is next in the witness box and she gives a damning report of Harvey’s violent nature and how he exploits vulnerable children for his own gain.
When she returns to the Street, Rita welcomes her with open arms and explains to Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) how she did the right thing and her evidence will put Harvey behind bars.
Later that night, Sharon packs her bag and tells Rita that after giving evidence she fears for her life.
Rita offers to give her the £10k to help her start afresh and she leaves Weatherfield.
It comes after the actress who plays Leanne spoke out about these upcoming scenes.
She told the press: “In the scenes with the gunman on the street, you see a real shift in how she feels about it all.
“She thinks this will never end unless she stops it now. She is terrified and trying to do her best. She doesn’t know if telling the truth or lying is the best thing or not. I suppose it will be how she feels on the day.”
Despite everything she has endured Leanne is still “tough”.
“What happened with Oliver suppressed that strength for a little while,” Jane continued. “Initially, she didn’t know what she was getting involved with but thought ‘I’ll fight it,’ but as it went on she got deeper and deeper. Now she can’t really get out.”
As for the court scenes, the actress added: “That’s a lightbulb moment. She’s already lost a child and been through the worst thing that is ever going to happen so what could be worse than that?
“That’s when we see her strength forming again and she becomes a little bit of the old Leanne, which I always love! Obviously she’s been through it with Oliver and that was intense in terms of acting, they were the best scripts I’ve ever had and she still kept that strength which I really loved.”
Coronation Street is available to watch on the ITV Hub due to the Euros 2020.
