Sinead (played by Katie McGlynn) was left devastated on Coronation Street last year when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, leading her to delay her treatment in fear she would have to terminate her pregnancy at the time.
With baby Bertie born and having finally completed the treatment earlier this year after being persuaded by husband Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) to put her health first, Sinead has been anxiously waiting to hear the results.
Scenes set to air on the ITV soap in the coming days will see Sinead and Daniel pay a visit to the hospital where they learn the tumour hasn’t grown and there is no signs the cancer has spread.
Although they are initially jubilant at the news, Daniel’s positivity outshines Sinead’s reaction as the young mother is still worried the cancer could come back at any time.
It’s changed her forever
Speaking about the aftermath of her character’s news, Sinead star Katie McGlynn, 25, said: “She has accepted the fact that she has had cancer and it’s always going to be in the back of her head.
“She will never go back to how she was before, it’s changed her forever,” the Coronation Street actress revealed.
As Daniel tries to embrace Sinead’s new lease of life, Katie explains: “Sinead and Daniel keep trying to do things together but everything just keeps getting in the way.
“Sinead feels really upset and stressed because she has a new born baby and she is meant to be happy after receiving her test results but she is not.
“She has started her beard oil business and she just wants to crack on with that to feel normal again whereas Daniel constantly wants to do things together.
“Daniel is acting as though everything is hunky-dory and it annoys her because she just wants to feel like a normal woman.”
Desperate to lift Sinead’s mood, Daniel will arrange for their young family to take a trip to Scotland but when the young mother gets tied up with her male grooming products business, the cobbles resident decides his wife’s empire is more important.
Still wanting to lift her spirits, Sinead’s news will lead Daniel to propose to his ‘wife’ despite cancelling their break, as technically their wedding last year wasn’t legally official.
However, could Sinead feeling annoyed by Daniel’s persistent positivity lead her to decline his proposal and call time on their relationship?
Or if Sinead accepts the proposal, could she jilt Daniel on their second wedding day, knowing she can’t commit to a life with him as her fears regarding her health could cause tension between the pair?
Sinead’s exit from the ITV soap was reported earlier this year, although both Katie and Coronation Street did not confirm the news.
A Coronation Street spokesperson told Express.co.uk earlier this year: “Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.
“This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”
Viewers will have to wait and see if a heartbreaking twist for Sinead and Daniel’s second wedding day leads to the Weatherfield favourite’s exit from the cobbles.
Heartbreak will be on the cards for another couple next week as Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Billy Mayhew’s (Daniel Brocklebank) relationship comes to an end as the vicar betrays his boyfriend.
Will Billy fight for his man and regain his trust, or will the vicar’s betrayal be too much for Paul?
Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
