Dan Walker takes swipe at Phil and Holly amid queue-jumping backlash

Dan Walker has taken a swipe at Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby following their "queue-jumping" backlash.

The This Morning stars found themselves in hot water when they were accused of filing past the late Queen Elizabeth II lying in state at Westminster Hall without waiting in line alongside other mourners.

Posting to his Instagram stories on Sunday, Dan was asked for his take on the matter.

Replying to a fan asking whether he would have "played the 'press card' or joined the queue", Dan seemed to knock his rival presenters.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star, 45, wrote: "The whole point is that it's a shared event.

"The wait, the slow walk, the memories are all a part of it."

Earlier in the week, Dan also wrote on Twitter: "I'm impressed by the commitment of those in the #QueueForTheQueueForTheQueen."

While Holly and Phil were blasted by fans on social media for jumping the queue, This Morning quickly released a statement clarifying the presenters had attended Westminster Hall "in a professional capacity".

The statement read: "Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something.

"We asked Phillip and Holly to be a part of a film for this Tuesday's programme.

"They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state, but instead, were there in a professional capacity as part of the world's media to report on the event."

Dan's comments follow a number of other broadcasters and TV personalities weighing in on the queue-jumping backlash.

Phil and Holly's former colleague Eamonn Holmes said "except not everyone came together" in a brutal dig.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid – who waited for over seven hours to see The Queen lying in state – added: "When I was in the queue, young children, patiently and uncomplainingly stood for hours.

"I was so proud of my mum at 81 queuing with me."

Lizzie Cundy, Ant Middleton and The Chase star Anne Hegerty were among Phil and Holly's defenders.
