The cold never bothered us anyway — the lack of Frozen 2 plot details bothers us a little. However, thanks to some Disney sleuths and a push from Neil DeGrasse Tyson, fans have a few new theories regarding the sequel. Why does the snowflake have four points instead of six? What are the designs on the snowflake? Here’s some of the symbolism hidden in Disney’s Frozen 2 poster.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson pointed out the physics of Disney’s ‘Frozen 2’ poster
Disney premiered its Frozen 2 poster in February 2019. Since then, fans (and physicists) noticed something unique about the snowflake featured in the center.
“Dear Disney, you got it right the first time. Water crystals have hexagonal ‘six-fold’ symmetry,” Tyson tweeted. “You still have a few months to fix your Frozen 2 movie poster, unless the sequel takes place in another universe, where water crystalizes to different laws of physics.”
“FYI: I actually don’t care whether you break the laws of physics to tell a story,” Tyson continued on Twitter. “E.g. I’m ‘cool’ with talking snowmen and roly-poly frozen trolls. What matters most is the consistency of creative worlds within a story and across sequels.”
Unfortunately for Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Disney’s “mistakes” to the Frozen 2 poster were intentional. Because
What is the Norse
V egvisir compass and how does it relate to ‘Frozen’?
According to Norse Mythology, there’s no exact date regarding the origin of Norse Vegvisir compass, though some speculate the symbol was used before or during the time of the Viking Age. Still, there’s not enough evidence to label it a “Viking symbol.”
The book Icelandic Magic: Practical Secrets of the Northern Grimoires, states that if this symbol is carried, “one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known.” This symbol, of course, relates closely to Disney’s Frozen 2, in which Elsa must confront her past and learn about her powers. Fans quickly pointed this out to Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
“Neil, that snowflake is shaped like a vegvísari/vegvísir which is an old Norse symbol that protects you against getting lost in bad weather — in the first film, Elsa and Anna’s parents get lost in a storm at sea, there is a storm in the Frozen 2 trailer, this art is symbolic, mate,” replied one Twitter user.
Fans pointed out the history and the symbolism behind the ‘Frozen 2’ poster
Although Disney did not reveal much of the sequel’s plot in their trailers, some speculate that there’s more symbolism hidden in the poster for Frozen 2. The four points of the snowflake each have a different design, leading fans to a separate theory regarding the movie’s plot.
“Frozen 2 theory: I think we might see three other characters with season
“Reading anti-clockwise, bottom-left might look like an ice prism (winter), bottom-right looks like a flower (spring), top-right might be the sun over the horizon (summer), and top-left looks like, um, something small falling off something big, like a leaf off a tree (autumn,)” said another Twitter user.
Disney’s Frozen 2 premieres in the United States and in the United Kingdom on November 22, 2019.
