EastEnders ' Shirley Carter was terrified Gray Atkins was going to murder his children, after he made concerning comments about the little ones seeing their late mother.
The abusive lawyer murdered his wife Chantelle in recent horrific scenes, after years of violence behind closed doors.
This evening, he sat his son and daughter down and asked them whether they would like to “see mummy again”.
Gray then sent the children to bed, and could be seen holding a lighter in his hand, a strange look gripping his face.
Luckily, Shirley Carter knocked on the door as the right time as she forced her way into the house.
Smelling the gas, Shirley quickly realised what Gray was planning to do as she begged Gray not to blow the house up.
Urging him against killing his family, she said: "I get it, I understand. I walked out on my dying son.
"I was in a dull place back there too. I know Gray, when you’re not thinking straight, you do stuff, you do stuff that makes your blood run cold when it’s all over."
Pleading with him, she added: "Gray, I have to live with that, but you don’t.
"So put that down and we’ll act like this never happened."
Finally, forcing Gray to look at a photo of his children, Shirley managed to get through to him, urging him to drop the lighter.
With tears in his eyes, the lighter fell to the floor, as relief swept across Shirley's face.
Whilst she seems to think Gray is struggling with his grief, it looks like she will soon realise just how evil he is, especially after she was told by Linda about his shocking outburst.
Has time run out for Gray?
