EastEnders resident Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace) temporarily departed Walford earlier this year after receiving a panicked phone call. The much-loved character quickly rushed off to deal with an urgent issue, leaving her partner Kush Kazemi (David Ghademi) behind. But, with the BBC soap now off the air for the next few months, there is sure to be much change when the characters return – but could Kat be back and end up returning to The Queen Vic now Sharon is in charge?

Kat has had a turbulent few years in the Square but seemed to have settled in recent months after her blossoming romance with Kush Kazemi.

The pair’s relationship has gone from strength to strength and he has been the perfect father figure for the Slater brood.

However, when Kat was forced to flee Walford earlier this year, Kush was left in charge of the kids and has since struggled to cope.

From Jean Slater’s (Gillian Wright) declining mental health to Tommy’s (Shay Crotty) difficulties at school, Kush has had to mediate some difficult situations.

But could there now be something to lure Kat back sooner than originally planned if Sharon makes her a tempting offer?

Earlier this week, the final episode of the BBC soap – until filming resumes in the coming weeks – aired the outcome of the bid for The Queen Vic.

Viewers had seen Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) desperate to have the iconic pub back in his control.

He had initially planned to buy the Vic for his estranged wife Sharon but when she revealed she would be choosing her son Kayden, he was furious.

Phil told Sharon she was “dead” to him and thus he continued his plans to secure the purchase from Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).

However, when his devoted wife Linda (Kellie Bright) discovered how Phil had been treating Sharon, she warned her husband not to sell the pub to him.

Fans were eagerly awaiting the finale twist earlier this week to see just who would be buying the pub and the result was priceless.

It turned out Sharon’s best friend – Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) – had got his hands on the Vic with moments to spare.

Of course, it’s well-known he will do anything to make Sharon happy and those watching were delighted to see her back behind the bar once more.

The last shot of Tuesday night’s episode saw Phil realise his plan had been foiled – but how will the Queen Vic look under new ownership?

Sharon is going to need some helping hands behind the bar and one such person she could turn to is Kat – who has a lot of history with the pub.

Long-term fans will know Kat used to run the pub with her ex-husband Alfie Moon (Shane Ritchie) in the 2010s after Phil had asked them to come back and take a handle on things.

However, it wasn’t the first time Kat had worked there as when she arrived on the soap back neatly 20 years ago, she started her journey off in the very same place.

Kat has years of experience impressing punters, so could she now return to her former role upon her return, which is due to come later this year?

Sharon will need a firm hand to help running the pub as she doesn’t have the support of a large family like the Carters did when they arrived in 2013.

So, could she enlist the help of Kat to help get things up and running upon her return?

EastEnders will return to BBC One later this year.
