EastEnders star praises Dame Barbara Windsor's 'magical' marriage

Ex-EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite has commemorated the late, great Dame Barbara Windsor ahead of her funeral this Friday.

Legendary actress Babs died at the age of 83 on December 10, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Due to Covid restrictions, the star’s funeral will not be a grand affair, with her husband Scott Mitchell confirming there will only be a small handful of guests to keep within guidelines.

Speaking on Lorraine about her memories of the star, Tamzine remembered her friend and the ‘beautiful’ relationship she had with Scott.

‘Obviously you can’t get millions of people who are her fans into one place at the moment,’ she said. ‘So obviously the nearest and dearest. I think it’s about 20 people will be going to the funeral.’

Sadly this means Tamzin, who starred as Mel Owen alongside Dame Barbara in EastEnders, won’t be able to attend.

But the actress is still commemorating her friend, and will be donating to the JustGiving page set up in Dame Barbara’s honour.

‘[She was] Absolutely incredible in every way. Apart from being an icon, if you were lucky enough to know her she was an inspiration as well.

‘Their [Barbara and Scott’s] relationship was just something to savour, just magical really. Just such lovely people.’

The family’s JustGiving page, in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK, has already raised more than £140,000.

Christopher Biggins, who was a close friend of Dame Barbara’s, recently revealed that he will speak at the funeral service.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
