EastEnders star Zack Morris reveals Keegan has changed

EastEnders star Zack Morris has reflected on Keegan Butcher-Baker’s growth as a character since his arrival in Walford three years ago.

Viewers will remember that Keegan was more rebellious upon his introduction, and didn’t hold back if he had something he wanted to say.

Reflecting on how the character was then in comparison to the Keegan we see on-screens now, actor Zack Morris said: ‘To start with Keegan was the cheeky and rebellious friend of Shakhil, so that kind of portrayal of Keegan which was the first year or so when he was still in school, is very very different to me.

‘And I loved the fact that we were so different. It enabled me to be a character and to really get into that which was cool. And who doesn’t love being a bit cheeky now and then? As an actor when you get to do things like that, being a baddie is fun.

‘There was definitely a separation then but as Keegan’s grown and the character has adapted some things have intertwined.

‘Which is nice, experiences that have happened to Keegan, the loss of his friend Shakhil and other big impactful events, all these things that have put a toll on his character.

‘The things that have happened to Keegan have affected him. The way things are now, for his age, he seems to be quite wise, he has a strong business mind, he wants to do well.’

With EastEnders having been forced to shut down production amid there Civ-d19 pandemic, the soap was forced to go off the air when pre-lockdown episodes ran out back in June, but production has since resumed.

Social distancing measures have been implemented on set in accordance with government guidelines, which Zack reveals has made filming somewhat ‘different.’

He said: ‘Obviously it’s different. But like everything you just have to adjust and especially given the circumstances, no one expected it to happen, so the fact that is has we’re all kind of going through it together.

‘It’s not something that’s happened before, this is a new thing for everyone. And it’s the first time it’s been different so even someone who has been there from day 1 is still learning. I like learning though so it’s been cool.’
