Emmerdale is about to air the most ambitious week it has ever tackled as soap boss Kate Brooks has revealed that it has been their biggest filming project to date.
Involving four spectacular stunts, Kate revealed a huge waterfall sequence as at least one character dies and she warned that at least one character will die as Meena Jutla’s (Paige Sandhu) revenge leads to a horrific chain of events.
Kate told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s easier to talk about what not to expect, the opportunity to do a big stunt week last year, it wasn’t on the table. So we wanted to go bigger and better for 2021.
‘It’s an adrenaline rush from the very start as twists and stunts come thick and fast and you can’t catch your breath. The glorious stunning landscapes are utilised and very focal, the brilliant Duncan Foster is brilliant to bring the scripts to life.
‘The week will catapault viewers to the heart of this beautiful but very dangerous environment. There are jaw dropping stunts, rapids and waterfall sequences as we subvert expectations. The denouement is the massive maze.
‘We love stunts but it’s not just about the ambitious and impressive stunts – at the heart of the week lie relationships, secrets, hearts broken and with Meena involved and hellbent on revenge on Victoria, not everyone will get out alive. We are incredibly excited about what we have managed to achieve.’
She was sworn to secrecy on two of the big stunts but promised one has never been tackled in a soap before – and with what we know, we can back that up!
Kate added: ‘We have a white knuckle ride through the icy rapids that will plunge characters into real peril. We have a never before seen on soap waterfall stunt – honestly it’s spectacular, hats off to Duncan and the team.
‘That is the tip of the iceberg but there are two other heartstopping top secret stunts but you will have to wait and see about those…’
It’s a week that will never be forgotten and at times, Kate admits to worrying that they couldn’t pull it off. But she added that these fears were fleeting as she had full faith in the team.
She explained: ‘I won’t lie. It’s the longest shoot we have done in Emmerdale – 30 days. Every morning I would wake up with a knot of both anxiety and excitement.
‘It was like Christmas Eve as a kid – I didn’t know what to expect or what curveballs and compromises there’d be. There were times when I went “crikey this is really big” and this is Hollywood scale.
‘Then I remembered how talented Duncan is, crew is, cast are – the niggles were drowned out. I had every faith.
‘The network have been incredibly generous with budget but every penny can be seen on screen. We have used the money wisely to create a week of episodes that feels like a Hollywood feature week. Drama, tension, thrills, on a new found scale. Hopefully people will enjoy it!’
