Endeavour ended on a very dramatic note last time fans saw the ITV series and now it’s time for season eight to begin. So who will be starring in the next outing of Endeavour? Express.co.uk has everything you need to know about the prequel’s cast.

Who is joining Inspector Morse prequel?

DS Endeavour Morse – Shaun Evans

Leading the way once again is actor Shaun Evans as the titular character of Endeavour Morse.

In season seven, Endeavour was heartbroken as Violetta (played by Stephanie Leonidas) took a bullet for him and he cradled her in his arms as she passed away.

So how is Morse going to cope after Violetta’s death and will it affect his work?

Actor Evans is a well-known face when it comes to British television and film, having starred in The Take with Tom Hardy, Wreckers, Whitechapel and The Last Weekend.

He is also currently starring in BBC One drama Vigil as well as CPO Elliot Glover.

DCI Fred Thursday – Roger Allam

Working alongside Endeavour as always will be old-fashioned police officer DCI Fred Thursday.

Him and Morse didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye last series but they may be able to bury the hatchment in season eight.

Thursday is played by actor Roger Allam who starred in BBC One’s The Missing as Adrian Stone.

Some of his other work includes Parade’s End, The Thick of It, Ashes to Ashes and The Lady in the Van.

Joan Thursday – Sara Vickers

Joan Thursday is DCI Thursday’s daughter who has been having a flirtationship with Endeavour.

She wasn’t in season seven because actress Sara Vickers gave birth during filming for the series.

Vickers will return though to reprise her role as Joan so could this be the series that she gets together with Endeavour.

Actress Vickers has been in Watchmen, Shetland and Privates.

DS Jim Strange – Sean Rigby

DS Strange is one of Endeavour’s colleagues who he goes to when he isn’t getting along with DCI Thursday.

He tried to help diffuse some of the tension felt in season seven but it’s going to take a lot more than a kind word or two to help mend Endeavour and Thursday’s relationship.

Strange is portrayed by actor Sean Rigby who is very new to the entertainment industry.

He played Lord Monteagle in the 2017 mini-series Gunpowder as well as a few shorts.

Other cast members include:

CS Reginald Bright – Anton Lesser

Dr Max DeBryn  – James Bradshaw

Much like season seven, series eight is going to be made up of three episodes in total, with a new instalment airing weekly.

Endeavour season 8 will premiere on Sunday, September 12, at 8pm on ITV.
