Friends beats The Big Bang Theory as HBO Max's number 1 show

Friends is officially the biggest show on new streaming service HBO Max – comfortably beating rival comedy The Big Bang Theory.

Basically, Rachel Green stays winning, always.

Stateside, Friends is one of the biggest draws for HBO Max – its the only place US fans can stream all 10 seasons of the iconic sitcom.

Now, according to TV Line, figures released two months after the streaming services debut reveal that Jennifer Aniston and co. have, obviously, stolen first place – but their runner-up might surprise you.

Oddly enough, The Big Bang Theory gets pushed into third place, beaten out by a HBO Max original programme called Love Life.

Starring Pitch Perfect’s Anna Kendrick, Love Life is an anthology-style show which has already been commissioned for a second season (although Kendrick will not return as its main star).

A spokesperson for HBO Max said: ‘Friends and The Big Bang Theory are performing beyond expectations and driving high levels of engagement,

‘Subscribers are loving new Max Originals, like Love Life, which is the No. 2 series on the platform since launch.’

It seems that, nearly 20 years after its finale, Friends still has a cultural cache that’s hard to beat – Rachel (Aniston) was even most recently voted TV’s most fashionable character.

She beat out competition from Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) for the title, but to be fair, no-one else quite managed to pull of a hairdo as chaotic or iconic as ‘the Rachel’ right?

Meanwhile, the now-legendary Friends reunion special on HBO Max may have been pushed back due to the coronavirus crisis, but David Schwimmer revealed the cast now have a new filming date.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, David said: ‘I can tell you that we are hoping to shoot in August, in mid-August, but honestly, we will do it when it’s safe.’

Friends is available to stream on HBO Max in the US. Both shows are available in the UK via Netflix.
