GMB shake-up as Susanna Reid announces extended break from show
Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid has announced she'll be taking a break from the show for two weeks. She shared the news with viewers and co-host Richard Madeley on Wednesday's episode (October 18).
"I am back in two weeks time," she revealed.
Lorraine Kelly, who was previewing her own show, responded to Susanna's announcement by saying: "We will miss you! Have a great time Susanna."
This comes after Susanna recently shared her thoughts on the BBC controversy regarding their refusal to label Hamas as terrorists following their attack on Israel.
Just last week, Rob Rinder appeared on GMB discussing the rising threat of antisemitism in the UK, especially after the October 7 attack. The 45 year old was visibly moved as he revealed his personal connection to two victims of the Israeli music festival attack.
He expressed: "The essential thing is that Hamas does not speak on behalf of the Palestinian people, and it's painful I suspect for you sitting there looking into that autocue calling these people militants, knowing what's going to ensue, knowing where they're planting their rockets and knowing the horror that's going to be brought to innocent civilians."
Susanna seemed to subtly criticise the BBC as she insisted on referring to them as terrorists.
"We very clearly call them terrorists," she responded firmly. "I mean, it was an act of terror what happened, and it was a barbaric atrocity."
"And you and I have been in contact since what happened. I didn't know that you had lost two friends in that attack. On every level, this is painful for you."
The BBC defended their choice to avoid using the term "terrorist" when reporting on Hamas. They stated: "Across our reporting we have explained that Hamas is proscribed as a terrorist organisation by many Western governments, including the UK."
"We have reflected the response from the international community to Hamas' actions, and featured contributors who have described them as terrorists." They added: "We have given careful consideration to all aspects of our reporting of the Israel-Gaza conflict, both in terms of Hamas' attacks and Israel's response this includes the language that we use."
"The BBC is editorially independent; our role is to explain precisely what is happening so that the public can make their own judgements. Our longstanding position, including during previous conflicts between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, has been that we do not use the term "terrorist" without attribution, in line with the BBC's Editorial Guidelines."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 at 6am
