ITV Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn in tears as Sinead Tinker storyline saves lives 4 years on
Katie McGlynn, known for her character Sinead Tinker on Coronation Street, was moved to tears when she realised that her character's cervical cancer storyline has saved lives four years after her sad death.
Katie's character was killed off in 2019 after she tragically died from cervical cancer and in a heartfelt post, she shared photos of herself as her Corrie character.
She wrote: "I can't quite believe it's been four years since we said goodbye to Sinead Tinker…. a character I will always cherish playing. As you all know Sinead died from cervical cancer, so please ladies don't forget to go for your smears, it could quite literally save your life."
After receiving an influx of comments from fans sharing stories with her and revealing how Sinead's storyline saved their life, she penned another Instagram Story: "Waking up this morning with tears in my eyes reading all of your comments and messages letting me know that Sinead's cervical cancer storyline saved your lives…..
"More than anything, I wanted my final storyline on Corrie to mean something and to make a difference. And the fact so many women are letting me know they might not be here today if it wasn't for that storyline, means more to me than words can ever express.
"Four years on, what we created @coronationstreet is still having an affect on people's lives – you have no idea how much this means to me and to the entire team of cast and crew involved in this story."
Two years after Katie left Coronation Street, she took part in BBC's Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered with Gorka Marquez.
However, after just a couple of weeks she was eliminated from the show and at the time there was growing speculation of tension between her and Gorka.
But during a live Q&A with fans on Instagram, she was forced to address the rumours. Katie was asked: "Are the rumours you 2 don't actually like each other doing your head in?"
She replied: "It doesn't do my head in at all. I just think it's funny as anyone who knows us knows we get on. We've got the same sense of humour, we literally just laugh all day."
At the same time, Katie was also starring in Hollyoaks. Speaking about juggling the two shows, the star continued: "I'm pretty lucky because both shows are really considerate of one another. One day, I'll be filming for over 12 hours, but I'll train for Strictly after that. Or the other way around."
Chatting about her performances on the BBC dance show, she shared: "Although I do get to have so much fun as an actress, a lot of my roles have involved quite serious and challenging storylines, so I'm fully ready to let my hair down and do something different, even if it is completely outside of my comfort zone."
