ITV Im A Celeb winner Sam Thompsons secret health scare that nearly saw him quit on first day in jungle

Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson was crowned King of the Jungle earlier this month after he won the hearts of the nation and his fellow camp mates. Sam took home the I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! winner's title, beating former boxer and runner up Tony Bellew, and broadcaster Nigel Farage, who came in third place.

However, thanks to recent information, it's been revealed that this result could have gone very differently. It comes as Sam himself admitted that he almost pulled out of the entire show on day one.

Sam sat down with his best mate and Staying Relevant podcast co host, Pete Wicks to chat about all things I'm a Celeb, where he admitted that he had a "full-blown" panic attack on the first day of jungle life.

"So on the first day when we go in, I had a panic attack," Sam shared.

"And I went in really guns blazing, I was so excited," he continued, before adding: "I was like 'oh my god everyone's here', like energy through the roof and then suddenly it hit me what we were doing and I literally sat on my bed and went 'oh my god'".

The 31 year old then recalled his physical reaction to this, which he said included a fast heart rate and sweating. He also said that he really wanted to be sick, and had two specific thoughts going round in his head. One, was that he was "either really ill" and required the help of a medic, and two, that they may have looked at him and made the decision to pull him out of the show.

Further on in the podcast, Sam recalled that people were coming up to him and asking why he was being so quiet following his panic attack.

"I was like 'I don't know, I don't know what's going on," he mused, sharing that it took him "a bit of time to acclimatise" because he "was so overwhelmed with the whole experience."

"It's a really weird experience when you first get in there, really, really weird, but everyone is so nice," Sam concluded.

Thankfully, the reality star got through the first day, and was able to show the viewers at home, plus his fellow celebs, the infectious personality that catapulted him to the finals, and to King of the Jungle status.

Since leaving the show, Sam has expressed how much fun he ended up having, and how the experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

In his first Instagram post after leaving the jungle, Sam said: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart, there aren't quite the words to describe how grateful I am for each and everyone of you who supported me during my time in the jungle. You made a young boys dream (now slightly older) come true, and I will never ever forget that."
