James Bye says his kids think he’s a ‘rubbish’ dancer ahead of Strictly: ‘They don’t really care!’

EastEnders star James Bye has admitted that his children think he's a "rubbish" dancer and that they "don't really care" that he's on Strictly Come Dancing.

The actor, 38, who plays Martin Fowler on the BBC One soap, joked that he's hoping he can get his kids to turn off PAW Patrol and watch him on Strictly instead.

James has three children – Edward, seven, Louis, six, and three year old Hugo, with his beautiful wife Victoria, who he married in 2012.

Talking about his decision to join the show, the actor admitted he has been asked in the past but instead prioritised his young family but now his kids are older, he's got time to focus on the series.

Speaking to press including OK! recently, James said: "Yeah, I have been asked to do it a few years ago, but I've got quite a young family, so it just wasn't the right time for me then.

"And you know how hard Strictly is, the amount of hours you've got to put in, I just didn't want to be away from my family home. But now my kids are a little bit older, I’ve got a bit of spare time.

"I guess with me, my kids think I'm a rubbish dancer, genuinely, and they're right, and I guess this is just a really nice opportunity for me to show them that with putting the graft in, getting the hard work done, that, hopefully, it's the plan, I might be able to walk out of it with at least one dance. If I can do one dance, I’ll be over the moon. But, yeah, that's my reason."

Talking about his children's reaction to him joining the show, James joked: "At the minute, they don't really care! They're not dance enthusiasts yet so there's another reason.

"Hopefully, I can get them watching the show on Saturday nights and you know, turn off PAW Patrol, whatever, and actually watch something decent and yeah, maybe get some new fans, a new generation of Strictly fans."

Strictly Come Dancing will kick off at 7pm on Friday 23 September.
