MAFS star heartbroken and penniless as romance scammers trick her out of £44k

A former Married At First Sight Australia star has been scammed out of thousands of pounds.

Mishel Karen, 51, from Queensland, appeared on the show’s seventh season and has since made a name for herself on OnlyFans.

Sadly the grandmother has been defrauded out of her earnings from the site after being targeted in an elaborate financial trading scam that's left her emotionally devastated.

Upon signing up to the trading platform, Mishel was allocated a broker who proceeded to woo her into a fake romance.

The money the reality TV star was told would go toward investments actually went right into their pockets.

And before long, the conmen ran off with over £44,500 ($77,267 AUD) of her money.

Making matters worse, they also left her brokenhearted.

In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, the 51-year-old OnlyFans star said she felt like a “big dumb dumb”.

“They must’ve known who I was because all of a sudden they gave me a financial broker that became a love interest,” she said.

“It just turned into a romance and he was getting more and more money out of me.”

While some may judge her for falling for the scam, there were a variety of steps the scammers took to ensure Mishel would believe their lies.

They wrote fake articles that claimed several prominent Australian celebrities had endorsed the brokerage on television.

She was also given a fake London address for the business and directed to websites with fake positive reviews.

The love-rat even convinced Mishel that he'd fly her out to London so they could finally be together.

She finally realised something was wrong when she had to make an emergency trip to hospital.

“I wanted to pull out $5,000 [for medical bills] and that's when the wheels came off,” she said.

Mishel had been duped into thinking she had more than $180,000 in her account at the time.

And according to the paper, she's been left feeling "penniless and heartbroken".

Former MAFS cast members came out of the woodwork to comment on the story, including her former on-screen husband Steve Burley.

And Reality TV alumni Nasser Sultan and Daniel Holmes both sent their sympathies.

Hopefully, Mishel can get back on her feet soon.
