Michaela Strachan reveals why Winterwatch co-star will NOT appear in new series after major shake-up

MICHAELA Strachan has revealed why her Winterwatch co-star will NOT appear in the new series after a major shake-up.

Michaela, 55, will join Chris Packham for the new series of Winterwatch tonight, but unfortunately, Gillian Burke will be missing.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 show, Michaela said: "Obviously we have got the live cameras on.

"Really excited this year because we're in Norfolk, Megan's with us this year, she's in Northern Ireland.

"Unfortunately Gillian had other commitments for Winterwatch.

"IoIo is in the Isle of Mull and we have got live cameras in all three places."

While Gillian is working on other projects this series, Chris's stepdaughter Megan McCubbin will be on the show, as will Iola Williams.

Michaela will be based at Wild Ken Hill in Norfolk and said: "I am looking out the window now and it's blue sky.

"And we're going out filming as soon as we've finished the interview with you.

"We are going out filming, and what a beautiful day. I mean it's crisp and it's cold but it's gorgeous and there is so much wildlife here."

Viewers will be delighted that Michaela is back on the show, having been forced to miss the series in January last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She also had to miss Springwatch in 2020 for the same reason.

Winterwatch begins tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
