Outlander fans are looking forward to see The Christies arrive on Fraser’s Ridge in season six. So far, not too much has been revealed about the Christie family but fans of the novels by Diana Gabaldon know Malva (played by Jessica Reynolds) causes trouble between Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe). Could she mess with the couple in the new series or will showrunners divert from the storyline?

Unfortunately for Claire Fraser, it seems Malva will cause trouble for her relationship with Jamie, despite seeing her as an ally when they first meet.

Fans of the Outlander novels know Malva becomes an apprentice to Claire and looks to her as a mother figure.

The pair grow close quickly but things turn sour when Malva falls pregnant and claims Jamie is the father.

Trouble continues to follow Claire when Malva is found dead and she is unable to save her unborn baby.

As a result of the mother and baby’s death, Claire is arrested for murder and it looks like she will pay with her life.

At the last moment, Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones), Malva’s adoptive father, steps forward and takes the blame.

Fans have been anxious to see if the storyline in the novels will be the same in the TV series or if Jamie will fall for Malva’s charms.

So far Jamie has always been the strong support Claire has needed and continued to dote on her despite a 20-year separation.

But Outlander bosses are knowing for causing trouble for the beloved couple and causing heartbreak for Claire could be on the horizon.

Claire star Caitriona has opened up on the impact Malva will have on the doctor and just how “twisted” it all gets.

“Outlander does baddies and villains quite well. [The Christies] aren’t your typical villains, which is great and refreshing,” she teased.

“Claire and Malva build a great relationship and bond. It’s very destabilising for Claire.”

Catiriona added to Entertainment Weekly: “It’s a really heartbreaking, but a really twisted narrative that they all get embroiled in.”

Could Claire be pushed out as Jamie turns his attention to Malva? Or could Claire find herself having to share her highlander husband with another woman?

Caitriona is currently promoting her latest film, Belfast, which comes not long after the birth of her first child.

The actress shared the sweet news on her Instagram in August writing: “I’ve been off socials for a while as I was taking some time to enjoy cooking up this little human …. We are so grateful for this little soul ….that he chose us as his parents.

“I’m in awe of him already and can’t help stare and wonder at all the possibilities of who he will become, where he will go and what he’ll do on the big adventure of his life.

“Right now he seems so small and fragile and I constantly think how grateful I am that I live in a place, in a time where he is born into peace and safety and yet at the same time I see so many in the world right now that aren’t afforded that same privilege and opportunity … who are born into famine or war and how unjust it is that the same safety isn’t there for all children.

“Here in the west we have so much, we are so lucky and so if you’d like to join me in supporting any of the wonderful charities that need help trying to give those that are forgotten dignity and hope, we can give the gift of peace and safety and opportunity to a few more children.”

Outlander season 1-5 are available to stream on Starz and Amazon Prime Video. Season six is expected February 2022.
