Since Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) was arrested by DCI Keeble (Alison Newman) on EastEnders, Phil (Steve McFadden) has had to keep his involvement with the whole matter quiet.
If he doesn’t he risks accusations from his family that he’s grassed Billy up, and he risks retribution from Keeble if he does anything to undermine her plans.
So when Billy asks Phil to help him get a better solicitor, Phil refuses. Normally the family law firm headed by the formidable Ritchie Scott (Sian Webber) would be there in an instant, but Phil knows he can’t be seen to be involved otherwise his whole family could be at risk.
This doesn’t stop Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) from wanting to help the man he thinks is his father, and he goes to Ben (Max Bowden) to ask him for help with the solicitor problem. Ben of course has no idea that Phil was involved in Billy’s arrest, so he helps Freddie out by putting him in touch with a lawyer at Ritchie’s firm.
And when Phil finds out, he’s fuming. Ben’s actions have unwittingly thrown things into chaos, and Phil is furious with Freddie for going to Ben in the first place.
As he vents his anger at the puzzled Freddie, he drops a huge bombshell – one that’s set to totally change Freddie’s life.
