Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) continues to face high pressure in EastEnders, which results in her seeking solace in alcohol. As part of a new storyline for the Queen Vic’s landlady, she will struggle to cope with family life, trying to fit in with the school mums and Ollie’s potential diagnosis with autism by hitting the bottle.
As she finds herself drinking more and more, it becomes a real vice and it will only cause further problems for the family down the line. Next week, it’s Ollie’s assessment and Linda is worried. With Mick (Danny Dyer) also facing struggles with his anxiety, it’s a day of heavy stress for the couple.
As Shirley (Linda Henry) finds an empty bottle of wine in the bin, she is concerned by how much Linda is drinking and confronts her but Linda brushes her fears aside – and soon finds herself snapping at Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White).
With the stress apparent, both Mick and Linda head to the hospital and await the results of the assessment. Mick has a long list of questions for the doctor and he and Linda attempt to remain united despite the worry they are both experiencing.
As the doctor brings Ollie’s results, will they be reassured that this is something they can cope with and get support with no matter what the outcome?
Either way, the result will be Linda’s continuing descent into alcoholism.
Speaking about the storyline recently, producer Jon Sen said: ‘This autumn the Carters will face one of their biggest crises to date when Linda turns to alcohol to escape the increasing pressures of her family life.
‘Linda’s descent into alcoholism will be instantly recognisable to many – a journey that begins with a single drink to cope with the everyday ups and downs but quickly escalates to a point which wreaks devastation on their life and the lives of those around them. In telling Linda’s story we hope that anyone in Linda’s situation or those around them notice the signs of alcoholism and seek the help needed.’
One to watch: Monday 10th October at 8pm on BBC One.
