Strictly Come Dancing suffers blow as viewing figures plunge for a second year
Strictly Come Dancing pays tribute to Len Goodman
Strictly Come Dancing has suffered a blow following its first live show as viewing figures have reportedly dropped for a second year in a row.
According to overnight ratings, the BBC show attracted 6.6 million people, who tuned in to watch the 15 celebrities taking to the dancefloor for the first time.
This is a drop from last year’s first live show which saw 6.8 million viewers watching, however, both years are significantly lower than 2021 which pulled in 7.9 million people.
Although, during its launch show, which saw the contestants matched into their professional pairs, Strictly attracted a peak of 6.7M viewers which beats last year’s 5.6 million peak.
Despite the slight fall in ratings, the first live show started with a bang with the stars showing off their impressive routines.

Although there were some stand-out moments during the show, it seemed as though fans were blown away by Nigel Harman and Katya Jones Pasa Doble.
His strong routine secured an incredible score of 32 which put him straight at the top of the leaderboard.
Commenting on their performance, judge Craig Revel Horwood said: “I tell you what, I wouldn’t want to be in the competition with you around, darling.”
“That was the dance of the night.”

Agreeing, head judge Shirley Ballas added: “I didn’t want to stop watching you dancing, you are the one to beat, well done.”
As always with the first week of the show, there was no public vote or elimination as the judge’s scores get taken forward to the following week to help determine which acts will be in the bottom two.
Although Nigel is storming ahead, Amanda Abbington, Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams are following close behind all scoring 29.
However, on the other end of the spectrum, Les Dennis and partner Nancy Xu are at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 16.
After Nigel’s performance, it seems as though viewers seem to think he’s going to be this year’s champion.
