Susanna Reid has thrown her own name into the mix to be appearing on the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and we need this to happen.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 50, kicked off today’s show by teasing co-host Richard Madeley, 65, on reports that he is planning to head to the Welsh castle in the next few weeks.
However, while he refused to be drawn over the speculation, Susanna suggested that she could be about to battle for the crown.
Returning to the series after two-week break, Richard laughed: ‘I’m with you now for a solid month, so I’m sorry.’
Jumping right on his phrasing, the ITV star questioned: ‘Are you doing anything in a month’s time, Richard, that means you can’t stay with us for more than a month?’
‘Oh, I see, that story,’ he continued. ‘She’s referring to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! I’m asked this every year, well most years they ask me to do it and I usually give an equivocal reply.
‘I’ve checked with ITV on what they want me to say about this because I may be going in or I may not be going in.’
His reply left Susanna – and to be honest, all of us – slightly baffled, and she decided to switch things up by throwing her own name into the ring.
‘Well I may be going in or may not be going in,’ she replied. ‘I might be going in, I may not be going in.’
‘I checked with ITV and what they said is this, quite a few “names” are linked to the programme at this point each year,’ her co-star said.
‘ITV quite like its people not to confirm or deny, I could be a hare that’s running in the race, or I could not be. I could be a distraction. That’s, I’m afraid, where I have to leave it.’
She wasn’t letting it lie, suggesting: ‘One of us might be a hare, one of us might be a distraction, is that what you’re saying?’
‘I could be a distraction and you could be a bunny rabbit,’ he added.
Could they both be the hares in this story?
Richard is thought to have agreed a contract worth a whopping £200,000 for an appearance on the reality show, which is fronted by Ant and Dec.
It usually takes place in the Australian jungle but is set to return to Gwrych Castle, in Wales, due to coronavirus restrictions.
‘Richard’s been asked year after year but the timing has never been right,’ a TV insider said. ‘But now, finally, he’s said “Yes”,’ an insider told the Sun.
‘He’s a favourite with ITV execs. He’s brilliant off and on screen so it seemed as good a time as any to throw caution to the wind and eat animal bits.
‘He’s a fantastic coup and a nailed-on fan favourite. Once you wind him up, off he goes — he will make for castle gold.’
An ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Any names suggested for the new series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! are just speculation.’
Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
