The Handmaid’s Tale is amping up its tension with every passing episode, but the upcoming episodes could be the most brutal yet.
June (played by Elisabeth Moss) is looking for a way out of Gilead with her daughter Hannah after successfully getting her baby girl Nichole to Canada.
However, Nichole’s first adopted mother Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) is eager to get the tot back to Gilead.
It seems Serena Joy will go to any length to reclaim her child – but could it eventually cost her her life?
Serena star Yvonne recently spoke to Glamour Magazine about her upcoming stories teasing there is a big twist on the horizon – could it be her death?
She teased: “It’s always so hard to talk about it without giving it away.”
However she did go on to tease some sort of conclusion for her character, adding: “But as usual there are some surprises around the corner. And I’ve got a really great arc in this story.”
If Serena’s arc were to come to an end, many viewers would assume she would eventually be killed off.
She has been playing with fire since season two helping the handmaid’s and going behind husband Fred Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) back.
But could the final episodes see her being killed off whilst trying to regain her daughter?
It’s always so hard to talk about it without giving it away
Meanwhile, despite Emily (Alexis Bledel) arriving safely in Canada with Nichole, fans are certain she could be in danger.
Recently the idea of retrieving Nichole from Canada was explored by Serena Joy and Fred claiming the baby belonged in Gilead.
It will most certainly be a struggle to get the child back into Gilead, but they may have luck elsewhere.
Recently a Redditor has begun theorising the Waterfords may look to extradite Emily on criminal grounds, and get her back for punishment.
The theory goes on to suggest that Emily will not survive the season if she is extradited in later episodes.
User CommanderMayDay theorised: “Commander Stabler talks Fred into leaving Nichole in Canada as leverage.
“Emily confesses to crimes in Gilead. So instead of trying to get Nichole back first, Gilead asks for extradition on criminals, first.
“Don’t know how it will play out but I think Emily gets word she’s being deported and then… I’m not sure she makes it.”
If this is the case, that would mean – despite finally getting away from Gilead’s tyranny – she could ultimately meet her doom at the hands of the horrific government.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 drops weekly on Hulu on Wednesdays and airs on Channel 4 in the UK every Sunday at 9pm.
