Fox’s hit competition series has become infamous for jaw-dropping surprises and celebrity reveals, and this week’s instalment was no different. Just two months after collapsing on the field from a cardiac arrest, Buffalo Bills star Damar Hamlin was unveiled on The Masked Singer and fans were thrilled to see he had almost made a full recovery.

Hamlin received a standing ovation from the crowd on Wednesday night shortly after being resuscitated on the field on January 2.

The 24-year-old football star made a heartwarming appearance on the show when he was introduced by his younger brother Damir and Sesame Street character Elmo.

He appeared to be back in good health and high spirits despite the incident during the Buffalo Bills clash with the Cincinnati Bengals at the start of the year.

His brother Damir stopped the show shortly after Squirrel’s performance of It Takes Two, and fans were blown away when the footballer came up on stage.

On Twitter, Jacob Elyachar exclaimed: “Damar Hamlin is one amazing role model and awesome older brother!”

Donald Blondell said: “Seeing Damar Hamlin on #TheMaskedSinger brought a tear to my eyes. The guy is amazing.”

@forthereading tweeted: “I was not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster ride of seeing Damar Hamlin, his little brother, and Sesame Street characters on #TheMaskedSinger tonight.”

“Damar Hamlin’s little brother is adorable and so cool,” @Jen_naaay said.

“Just chilling on those stairs like it’s nbd. And the little high fives! Just precious.”

Redditor u/ElderOmnivore recalled: “Damar! I remember watching that live and holy c**p was that scary.”

And Joseph Neil Smalley added: “A surprise appearance by Damar Hamlin of the

@BuffaloBills! He has been an inspiration to all.”

Hamlin’s reappearance shocked the audience, and judges Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger gave him a huge round of applause.

Former doctor Jeong was clearly thrilled and overwhelmed by his appearance, as Scherzinger quipped: “Ken is freaking out.”

“I’m just so glad you’re here,” Jeong told the football star.

“But more importantly, I’m just so glad you’re healthy. The whole world loves you!”

When asked by host Nick Cannon why he decided to make the public appearance, Hamlin gave a touching tribute to his brother Damir.

“Mainly because of my brother, you know?” he told the presenter. “That’s my world, I put family first.

“He loves Sesame Street more than most things, so we had to make it tonight.”

Before the judges made their guesses for Squirrel, Cannon gave Hamlin one last “thank you” before he gave high fives to people in the crowd and departed with Damir.

American actress Malin Akerman was eventually revealed as the singing rodent, whilst YouTuber Lele Pons was unmasked as the Jackalope after facing Fairy in the Battle Royale.

The Masked Singer US season 9 continues Wednesdays on Fox in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
