The Repair Shop is the reality series that never fails in tugging at the heartstrings of its fans. Hopeful visitors are welcomed to the barn with their precious belongings, wishing that it could be restored to its former glory and thanks to the experts’ knowledge and skills, they always are. One of the BBC show’s stars Dom Chinea opened up to about what he enjoys most about his time in the workshop.

Dom Chinea is the metalworker of The Repair Shop, always on hand to get any hardware items back up and running again.

Prior to joining the show in 2017, Dom worked as a production designer at Rankin Studios.

It was here that the creative workman assisted in building sets for events and editorial photoshoots.

He has even had a part to play in creating some music videos, including for Rita Ora’s song Facemelt.

While he may be a very talented expert himself, Dom has admitted being very impressed by some other The Repair Shop cast members as well.

One of which is paintings conservator Lucia Scalisi who is also another original star of the show.

Speaking to, Dom said: “So, weirdly, Lucia [Scalisi], every time I see what she is working on…we very rarely get to work together, I think I recently helped her with a frame.

“But I am sort of in awe of what she does. She is so so clever, sitting and watching her work is fantastic.”

Dom continued: “And people like her would usually be at the back of the V&A in a restoration room somewhere.

“I would never find myself working on the bench next to Lucia, it’s such an odd situation but brilliant.”

Lucia isn’t the only expert Dom admires as he has been admiring Christopher Shaw, the bookbinder, from afar as well.

He added: “He is so talented and so nice. I think the draw to him is that he’s got such a cool collection of tools!”

The Repair Shop returned for season eight in April 2021 and came to an end last month.

Since then, fans have missed their weekly dosage of The Repair Shop every Wednesday on BBC One.

However, there is no need to be worried about the show’s future just yet.

The BBC has already revealed there will be a season nine on the way.

While talking to last month, Dom stated they were currently in the middle of filming the new episodes.

Going by previous series, The Repair Shop has returned in the Spring.

So, if the show sticks to its usual release date schedule, The Repair Shop season nine could be returning in just a few months.

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
