Fans have branded Craig Doyle as the "best TV partner" for Holly Willoughby after Phillip Schofield stepped down from This Morning.

Craig joined Alison Hammond today (May 24) to present the show as Holly is on leave until June 5.

It comes after a rumoured feud between Holly and Phil left the show up in arms, with viewers speculating about its future.

But viewers are now calling for Craig to be kept on "permanently" as they praised him for his "warmth" on-screen.

One person tweeted: "Love Craig Doyle on @thismorning breathe of fresh air."

Another person said: "Nobody, absolutely nobody, is a better tv partner for Holly than Craig Doyle. If you can't see it, there's something wrong with you."

A third wrote: "They need to keep Craig on permanently!"

While another commented: "Please #ThisMorning pair Craig Doyle with Holly. Love his down-to-earth presenting. He doesn't come across smug!"

Other fans took the chance to speculate who could also join Craig in the potential presenter line-up.

"I still reckon Craig Doyle with Emma Willis would be good," someone tweeted.

Another said: "Come on @thismorning you need a good shake up get @RochelleHumes, @vernonkay, Craig Doyle on."

Holly presented the daytime show for 14 years alongside Phil before the duo also took on Dancing on Ice together.

Phil announced he was stepping down with "immediate effect" in a statement released on the weekend.

He said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can't go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future."
