Hollyoaks Favourites are revisiting the iconic relationship between Craig (Guy Burnet) and John Paul (James Sutton) this week, and honestly, we are buzzing.
This classic couple from the soap graced our screens for years, and now, with older episodes of Hollyoaks being aired again, we get to relive it all again.
Ahead of this trip down memory lane, here’s a quick recap of what happend to Craig and his relationship with John Paul.
What happened to Craig?
Craig and John Paul certainly had their ups and downs as a couple.
The pair started out as friends, and before John Paul came out to his friends and family, he and Craig shared a drunken kiss at a dance competition.
Craig was initially ashamed of his sexuality, and briefly bullied his friend for being gay after John Paul came out.
It took a little while for the two to make up after that, and even when they did and started to have a secret affair, Craig’s reluctance to first admit his feelings for John Paul, then aversion to showing affection in public led the two to split – with Craig going to Dublin.
But the lads never could quite quit each other, and Craig returned from Dublin and won John Paul back before the two headed off to Dublin to start a life together.
He was last seen in Hollyoaks in 2008, with he and John Paul splitting and getting back together off-screen so many times since then it’s given us whiplash.
It seems as though these splits are written in to facilitate John Paul’s various returns to the soap, as executive producer Bryan Kirkwood told Inside Soap: ‘If an actor doesn’t want to come back, there’s not much you can do about it.
‘Guy Burnet is so loved by many of us at Hollyoaks, he’s still in touch with many of the cast — but he doesn’t want to return, and James does. We’d be fools not to take James up on that offer.
‘In terms of John Paul and Craig, I see them as having a lifetime of tortured romance — that will inevitably mean the occasional break-up.’
Hollyoaks Favourites is on E4 tonight at 7pm.
