Dan Walker slammed critics after he shared a picture alongside Conservative Party Deputy Chair Lee Anderson.<\/p>\n
The former BBC Breakfast presenter, 46, was accused of giving the politician a platform despite the controversy surrounding Mr Anderson.<\/p>\n
Dan took to Twitter, formerly X, and penned: “The bile surrounding this post is bonkers.<\/p>\n
“He\u2019s the deputy chair of the ruling party! The whole point of our \u2018People Behind Politics\u2019 series is that we talk to MPs of all persuasions. The insults & threats on here are saturated in the prejudice the authors claim to detest.”<\/p>\n
It comes after Dan shared a photo earlier in the day on (August 29) of the pair sat together, and the broadcaster explained he had spent the morning with the MP in his Ashfield constituency in Nottinghamshire.<\/p>\n

You can watch it on @5_News on Thursday.”<\/p>\n But the post sparked controversy as social media users reacted to their meetup.<\/p>\n One person fumed: “Ah Dan. You used to have credibility. You are better than that.”<\/p>\n Another commented: “That\u2019s a hard pass. I won\u2019t be watching, not going to normalise how this individual & his political party downgrades my life & all who live in the UK through his actions & deplorable words. He needs to be voted out of parliament not promoted on my TV.”<\/p>\n Don’t miss… <\/strong> A third wrote: “No thanks I think I’ll give it a miss, he’s not the sort of person who should be in government,” while a fourth added: “How disappointing.”<\/p>\n Another vented: “Giving any kind of platform to him is shameful.”<\/p>\n “Sorry, Dan. Will give this one a miss,” a sixth added.<\/p>\n Mr Anderson, the MP for Ashfield since 2019 and the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party has split public opinion in recent years.<\/p>\n The 56-year-old, who worked as a coal miner for 10 years, has made headlines with his antics.<\/p>\n Commenting on charities complaining about the migrant barge moored in Dorset earlier this month, Mr Anderson previously told Express.co.uk: “If they don’t like barges then they should f*** off back to France”.<\/p>\n He courted further controversy in October 2022, after he misgendered trans comedian and prospective Labour candidate Eddie Izzard.<\/p>\n \u201cIs that what\u2019s coming to Parliament?\u201d he told Talk TV. \u201cI think it opens a whole new debate, mate. More info<\/p>\n Mr Anderson previously claimed people are using food banks as a “free weekly shop”.<\/p>\n He said at a Westminster debate: \u201cWe have got this culture now in some of these deprived areas where people are so dependent on food banks it is like a weekly shop for them.<\/p>\n \u201cOne particular family I was helping, really helping, and they were going to the food bank two or three times a week to get their groceries and then, you know, I see them in McDonald\u2019s two or three times a week.\u201d<\/p>\n
