<\/p>\nKATE Garraway is 'willing Derek on' in a 24-7 bedside vigil after he suffered a huge heart attack just before Christmas. <\/p>\n
The brave family have come together to pray for "fighter" Derek, 56, after he was taken seriously ill last Monday.<\/p>\n

Wife Kate has since cancelled all TV and radio presenting while she supports her husband who is "fighting for his life" once again, after a Covid infection in 2020 sparked years of heartbreaking health battles.<\/p>\n
A source told The Sun last night: "Kate\u00a0is by his side 24 hours a day and is willing him on to win this latest battle for his life.<\/p>\n
"Kate has been utterly incredible \u2014 by his side while being an amazing mum to Darcey and Billy, and trying to manage their expectations of a family Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n
The dad-of two was rushed to hospital in March 2020 where he spent 214 days on a ventilator, nearly four months in an induced coma and lost eight stone as well as his ability to speak properly.<\/p>\n
After he moved back home in April 2021, Derek required round the clock care and was rushed back to hospital with "life-threatening" sepsis in August the following year.<\/p>\n He was struck down with more ill-health in the following months and suffered a huge heart attack just last week.<\/p>\n Friends and family are aware of his worsening\u00a0condition.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone is praying for a miracle," the source explained.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cDerek suffered a massive heart attack earlier this week which has left him fighting for his life all over again.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was sudden and a shock as he had been doing so well and was in great spirits, looking forward to\u00a0Christmas\u00a0at home with the family.<\/p>\n \u201cThis setback has been a huge blow for his family and all the people \u00a0caring for him.<\/p>\n \u201cDerek has fought so many times, and always, against all odds, come out the other side."<\/p>\n Kate has revealed the struggles of daily life in two critically acclaimed documentaries.<\/p>\n She showed how she often wakes up every few hours to help carers move Derek, and how she will wash his bed sheets multiple times a day.<\/p>\n Last February, The Sun revealed the couple had secretly travelled to\u00a0Mexico\u00a0to try a medical trial in the hopes it could improve Derek's condition.<\/p>\n ARCH\u200930,\u20092020:<\/strong>\u00a0Derek is rushed unresponsive to hospital with Covid.<\/p>\n APRIL\u200924:<\/strong>\u00a0He is put into an induced coma.<\/p>\n JUNE\u20095:<\/strong>\u00a0Kate reveals Derek is Covid free but his body suffered damage.<\/p>\n JULY\u20095:<\/strong>\u00a0He awakens from a deep coma but remains \u201cminimally conscious\u201d.<\/p>\n SEPTEMBER\u20096:<\/strong>\u00a0Kate then reveals Derek lost eight stone and cannot speak.<\/p>\n SEPTEMBER\u200929:\u00a0<\/strong>Becomes the longest-suffering Covid patient after spending 184 days in hospital.<\/p>\n OCTOBER\u200930:<\/strong>\u00a0Wakes from coma and speaks for first time in seven months.<\/p>\n OCTOBER\u200931:<\/strong>\u00a0He is finally taken off ventilator after 214 days in hospital.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TM-Derek_COMP.jpg\")
