Britney Spears tells fans to ‘lighten up’ after concerning video dancing with knives

Do Britney Spears fans simply need to "lighten up"? That's what the 41-year-old popstar is suggesting on Instagram.

Just a couple of days ago, the Baby One More Time songstress uploaded a clip of herself spinning around and busting some moves at home in her underwear, all while clutching a pair of a kitchen knives as her dogs loitered around at her feet.

"I started playing in the kitchen with knives today!!!" she captioned it. "Don't worry they are NOT real knives!!! Halloween is soon!!!"

Following on from this, which inevitably caused major alarm amongst social media users, Britney has now posted another dancing video alongside the message: "Lighten up about the knives I'm copying Shakira!!!"

Incase you hadn't heard, at this month's MTV Video Music Awards, the 46-year-old Columbian singer accepted a Lifetime Achievement gong before performing a medley of her greatest hits infront of the crowd. Amidst the synonymous hip-shaking, Shakira was seen wielding two daggers as part of her routine.

It's a particularly tumultuous time in Britney's life right now, having just recently split from her husband Sam Asghari after one year of marriage.

In an OK! exclusive, the star's former bodyguard Fernando Flores commented: "In my opinion, the relationship was never going to last. The only surprise is that they didn’t break up sooner.

"I think they clearly rushed into getting married, which is another pattern that is repeating. When Britney falls in love, I think she always wants to make that person her husband. She doesn’t always think it through.

"Sam was rarely there, he hasn’t been living with her at the house for months. I’m told Sam couldn’t handle her mood swings. I think Britney can be a lot for some people to handle. She sometimes breaks down crying or gets angry."

At the time of their split hitting the headlines, Britney herself penned a lengthy post addressing the situation.

"As everyone knows, [Sam] and I are no longer together…" it began, before adding how six years was a "long time to be with someone" and that she was "a little shocked" everything had turned out this way.

"But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly!!! In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you!!! I've been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it's far from reality and I think we all know that!!!" she continued.

"If I wasn't my dad's strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors!!! But that's when I needed family the most!!! You're supposed to be loved unconditionally… not under conditions!!!!"

This eye-opening statement was wrapped up with: "So I will be as strong as I can and do my best!!! And I'm actually doing pretty damn good!!! Anyways have a good day and don't forget to smile!!!"

29-year-old Sam, who acts as well as models, also said of their separation: "After six years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.

"We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S*** happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful."
