Ex-Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley puts her four-bed detached home on the market for £875,000 – weeks after ‘Cakegate’ scandal where she wanted bakery to provide free food in exchange for ‘promotion’ on social media

Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has put her luxury home on the market – just weeks after being embroiled in her infamous Cakegate scandal.

The actress and her husband Tom Pitfield are asking £875,000 for their immaculately presented four-bed detached house on a quiet tree-lined cul-de-sac in the Greater Manchester area.

Estate agents pictures reveal the ‘stunning’ interior of the former Strictly contestant’s home which recently had a single story extension built at the rear.

She has not disclosed her reasons for selling the mortgaged property and what her future plans are.

Land Registry records reveal that Tyldesley and her husband, a former fitness trainer, paid £500,000 in May 2016 for their home.

The couple who have two children were given planning consent in May 2020 to demolish a detached garage at the rear of their property and build a single storey rear extension with a part glazed roof, and to convert a garage at the front into ‘a habitable room’.

Estate agents details describe the extended house with a largely open plan ground floor as a ‘stunning’ and ‘beautifully designed’ family home finished to ‘a high specification’.

The house boasts a 36ft open plan dining kitchen with integrated appliances, a feature breakfast bar, skylights and glass doors to the rear garden.

The living room has a ‘feature bay window and media wall’ and there is also a home office downstairs.

The house also has electric security gates with video intercom entry, plenty of off-road parking on its driveway and a front lawn.

The rear garden is ‘enclosed with mature hedges and fencing for privacy’ and is mainly laid to lawn with a patio area and ‘plenty of space for garden furniture’.

The latest accounts for Tyldesley’s company Dreambig Productions show it had current assets of £115,357 in July 2022, but with £115,252 owing to creditors, meaning it had total net assets of just £112 – compared to £572 in 2021.

The liabilities of the company could have included wages or money due to Tyldesley as well as possible debts.

The company’s latest filings to Companies House show that it changed its name last Friday to TP Media Group, with the initials suggesting a greater involvement for her husband and fellow director Tom Pitfield.

Her house move was revealed today after she made unwelcome headlines in August over a request for a bakery to provide free cakes for her planned 40th birthday party.

The Leeds-based party planning company NVRLND which was organising the bash had asked the Three Little Birds bakery, if it wanted to supply a birthday cake, 100 cupcakes for a ‘well known’ celebrity’s party along with a smaller cake for her husband.

The bakery in Keighley, West Yorkshire, was told that payment would be made in the form of ‘promotion’ on the unidentified celebrity’s social media accounts, along with exposure in OK magazine.

Baker owner Rebecca Severs responded with a tongue in cheek email, saying: ‘I’m so sorry to hear that your client has fallen out on such hard times they can’t afford to pay small businesses for their products.

‘Unfortunately, as my mortgage provider doesn’t take payment ‘in the form of promotion on their social’, and my staff can’t feed their kids with exposure on Instagram, I’ll have to decline your very generous offer.’

She put a screenshot of the email exchange on Facebook, with a message saying: ‘This poor celebrity apparently can’t afford to pay people for their products and services. Spare a thought! What happened to women supporting women.’

Ms Severs followed her post with another, saying that she had been threatened with legal action by the events company ‘as a response to this post which they say is encouraging defamation of their business’.

Tyldesley was quickly unmasked as the celebrity who would have been the recipient of the cakes.

She hit back by posting a video message filmed in her car insisting that she knew nothing about the email request for the free cakes, and hitting out at the bakery owner for trying to get publicity for her business.

Tyldesley said in her video: ‘Utterly bizarre. I don’t really know what to say. I mean I hope the cake lady got the exposure she was craving. Cakegate! WHAT!

‘So I had no idea those emails were being sent. I’m not working with the lovely OK magazine on anything that I’m aware of and NVRLND are an amazing company.

‘They’ve supplied me with performers in the past. They’re insane and they’ve been completely misrepresented in this matter.’

The star who played Eva Price in Coronation Street from 2011 until 2018 later cancelled her party on September which was due to be attended by a number of celebrities.

In the fall out of the scandal, she shared a meme of a frazzled looking Barbie doll with dishevelled hair, smudged make-up and panda eyes, and a caption saying: ‘Me trying to work, go to the gym, stay hydrated, not be broke, maintain a social life, and get eight hours of sleep every night.’

The actress posted a message agreeing with the meme’s joke about the struggles of women juggling financial pressures, work and family life with the single word: ‘Yup’.
