Corries Faye actress Ellie Leach to be offered BBC soap role after soap axe
Former Coronation Street star Ellie Leach is thought to be in the running to appear on the BBC's Waterloo Road.
The 22 year old is currently training up to star on Strictly Come Dancing, which is back on September 16, but the corporation is apparently keen to keep her on the channel.
If the rumours are true, we could soon be seeing more of her on our screens in Waterloo Road alongside the likes of Adam Thomas – who is also on Strictly this year.
A source told The Sun: “Ellie was hugely popular when she appeared on Weatherfield’s cobbles as Faye Windass and there’s every chance she’ll be a bigger hit when she gets on the dancefloor.
“When the glitter falls on the upcoming series of Strictly, they want to tap into her mass appeal and bring that over to Waterloo Road.
“They don’t want to leave it too late and have another show snap her up.”
Ellie is best-known for her role as single mum Faye Windass on Coronation Street, who she played for 12 years.
She left earlier this year, after her character moved to Slough to be with Jackson Hodge, the man who got her pregnant at the age of 12.
In August, Faye was announced as one of the 15 contestants of Strictly for this year's show.
Sharing her excitement to be joining the show, Ellie said: "It still doesn’t feel real that I’m going to be doing Strictly!! It’s always been a dream of mine so I guess dreams really do come true!!!!"
After the official Strictly Twitter account announced the news, fans were quick to share messages of support for Ellie, with one writing: "Aww I’m buzzing for this one! My favourite contestant so far this year xxx"
"Another fantastic signing. Welcome to Our 10th Celebrity #Corrie Star Ellie Leach Who played Faye Windass. So excited for her. She is going to be amazing! Good luck Ellie [two green heart emojis] added another.
And a third wrote: "OMG i actually screamed, I love this girl, good luck Ellie."
Ellie will be joining fellow soap star Adam Thomas, former Love Islander Zara McDermott, EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier and broadcaster Angela Scanlon.
In terms of Strictly professionals who will be back on this year's show, the BBC announced that current reigning champion Jowita Przystal, who last year lifted the glitterball trophy with wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin, is returning to the show along with 2022’s runner-ups Gorka Marquez, Carlos Gu and Vito Coppola.
Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones and Nikita Kuzmin were also confirmed to be among the professionals in the line-up.
Those taking to the dancefloor also include Luba Mushtuk, Giovanni Pernice, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Lauren Oakley and Michelle Tsiakkas.
