EMILY PRESCOTT: Benedict Cumberbatch is a proud tourist
EMILY PRESCOTT: If the cap fits! Benedict Cumberbatch is a proud tourist during Big Apple stroll
While most A-listers are keen to go unnoticed when out and about, Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be going for a different approach.
The 47-year-old Oppenheimer star apparently invited attention as he strolled around the trendy New York neighbourhood of Tribeca in a baseball cap emblazoned with the word ‘tourists’.
He and 45-year-old wife Sophie Hunter, a theatre director, also colour co-ordinated in black and white, as they headed to dinner. But however conspicuous the star, New Yorkers are notoriously sanguine about fame.
During a break from filming in the city a few years ago Cumberbatch went for coffee dressed in full Doctor Strange costume, and no one batted an eyelid!
The actor has been between London and New York in recent months filming an upcoming Netflix series Eric, in which he plays a puppeteer.

Having stunned the culinary world last month by announcing swanky Mayfair eatery Le Gavroche will be closing in January, Michel Roux has turned himself into a pop-up chef.

The restaurant has been in his family for over half a century, having opened in 1967. Now twice Michelin-starred Michel, 63, plans to keep its legacy alive by offering the Le Gavroche experience for private dinner parties.
Michel, right, said: ‘Even though the restaurant will be closing, I’m keeping the business and name going. I intend to take Le Gavroche on the road. If somebody wants a dinner for eight then I could do a Souffle Suissesse at somebody’s house.’
Website Celebrity Experiences is already offering customers the chance to book him. And while exact details have to be specified before a price is given, it won’t come cheap, with potential customers being told that a minimum budget of £10,000 is required. Think I’ll stick to beans on toast.
