ITV Dancing On Ice star reveals health battle that left them ‘unable to cook or get on a train’

S Club 7 star Hannah Spearrit has opened up about how "tough" the past year has been for her, following a secret health battle and the death of bandmate Paul Cattermole.

Hannah, 42, who found fame with the pop group in the late 90s, has revealed she suffers with an autoimmune condition, which initially left her with "no energy" and unable to cook dinner.

The singer said she knew something was wrong when she began to experience chronic fatigue, brain fog and vertigo, prompting her to realise her health was gradually "deteriorating".

"I don't think I realised how much I'd deteriorated because it happened so gradually, I had no energy and couldn't even get on a train or cook dinner," Hannah told Hello! Magazine.

She continued: “That affected my mental health, too, because I've always been a physical and sporty person, it's only when you get better and can do things you love again that you realise how bad things were.”

On top of her health battle, Hannah's bandmate Paul died in April and she also made the decision to step away from S Club 7 and the band's reunion tour.

She went on to add: “It's been a tough and challenging year, and things happened that were quite traumatic.”

She told how she's managed to help her autoimmune condition by using a serum derived from her own blood to stabilise her, which also helps to repair damaged organs and tissue.

Despite her difficult year, Hannah is now taking on a new challenge as she is one of the celebrities set to compete on next year's Dancing on Ice, which begins in January.

Speaking ahead of the show, she told Good Morning Britain viewers: "I'm really excited about learning a new skill. It's so easy to live your comfortable life and that aspect of mixing things up is very appealing. Fitness is another reason why I’m doing it! It's really exciting.”

Hannah will be competing against ex-boxer Ricky Hatton, actress Claire Sweeney, Love Island's Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, Made in Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire, comedian Lou Sanders, EastEnders star Ricky Norwood, Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas as well as Emmerdale's Roxy Shahidi.

Ex-Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb was also set to compete on Dancing on Ice, but had to withdraw from the series after suffering an injury in training which saw him be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
