Kate Bottley ‘has no idea how she’s still married’ as star warns newlyweds
Reverend Kate Bottley appears on Gogglebox in 2016
Gogglebox star Kate Bottley has candidly opened up about the highs and lows in her marriage to co-star Graham Bottley, as she warned newlyweds what to be aware of.
The Reverend Kate married Graham back in 1998 when they were five years into their relationship, and they share two children together.
In a new interview, the reality star admitted there were days where she questioned how the pair are still together, as she talked taking the “rough with the smooth” and how they’ve avoided a divorce.
Speaking to Gaby Logan on her The Midpoint Podcast, she joked about potentially divorcing: “We hate paperwork, how would we unpack our lives after so long together?
“People think I’m joking but I’m actually 100 per cent serious and he’d say the exact same.

“Some days I’m like, I’m going to choose to love you today despite everything, despite that I want to squeeze your head while you’re eating crisps.
“I’m going to choose to love you today and he has to choose to love me as well.”
The Gogglebox star also admitted she had drummed into newlyweds in church that the “butterflies don’t last forever”.
She explained: “I always say to wedding couples when they’re sat at the front of the church, I go, ‘she won’t always look this good and he won’t always look that good, so what you gonna do?’
“Lust will only get you so far. You’ve got to grow together, I’m not the same person that he married when I was 23, and he’s not the same person I married when he was 29.”

She added that despite she and Graham not being the same people, they had “somehow” got this far through working together.
“Don’t get me wrong there are days when I have no idea how I’m still married,” she went on to admit.
“And then there are days where I couldn’t imagine doing life without him.”
Gaby went on to ask Kate whether her faith had played a part in the way she viewed her marriage, to which she confirmed it had, but joked: “I think getting divorced and being scared of what his mum would say has been a factor in keeping us together.”
She added: “My faith is very much like my love for my husband, some days it’s really strong and I can’t ever imagine living without it and some days, it’s a bit annoying.”
Kate, who has married more than 300 couples, also helped couples during BBC Two documentary Alone with the In Laws back in 2017.
During the show, she sent pairs wanting to marry to their prospective in-laws for four days to find out what makes a good marriage.
Speaking to the camera, she explained: “You can’t predict what will happen in people’s marriages.
“I don’t know anyone who gets married thinking it won’t last and it’s very sad when I get that call to tell me that marriages haven’t worked out. I want everyone I marry to have successful and happy marriages.”
Kate went on to share her tips for a successful relationship which includes communication, compromising, caring for each other and a good connection.
Celebrity Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer airs Friday at 9.30pm on Channel 4.
