Meghan Markle beams as she lands in Germany to join Prince Harry at Invictus Games

Meghan Markle has been spotted landing in Germany to join husband Prince Harry on the third day of the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, was notably absent at the beginning of the Duke's major competition for wounded military personnel and veterans, but beamed as she arrived in the country today.

The mum-of-two donned sunglasses and a scarf with her hair pulled back into a bun after travelling to Europe from her and Harry's home in California with their two children.

Harry was pictured earlier today sharing a joke with TV presenter and Invictus Games medalist JJ Chalmers during the wheelchair basketball competition, after taking part in some “seat dancing”.

Harry and Meghan famously appeared in public together for the first time at the Toronto Invictus Games in 2017, pictured hand in hand at a wheelchair tennis event.

Fans had been wondering for months whether they would see the royal couple, who are parents to children Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, together at the games.

Harry has said he plans to attend as many of the events taking place in the games as possible this week.

The royal, who is fifth in line to the throne, was pictured arriving outside of City Hall as he settled in to the European country a day earlier.

As he embarked on his trip to the opening ceremony, where Harry gave a special speech to kick off the annual competition, fans gathered nearby so they could cheer and wave.

Encouraging competitors and gearing up for a week of excitement, Harry made an important mention of his wife and her ancestry too.

"Now I'm not saying we play favourites in our home," Harry told the audience.

"But since my wife has discovered that she is of Nigerian descent, it's likely to get a little more competitive this year," he joked.

The closing ceremony will take place on September 19, where Meghan is expected to join her husband as they mark the end of the competition and give special awards to some other participants.

The Duke set up The Invictus Games in 2014, nine years ago, as a project incredibly close to his heart after being in the army.

The sporting event is an opportunity for international wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women to become part of something and join a community with like-minded people – both still serving and veterans.

When Harry and Meghan married in 2018, the Duchess got on-board with her husband's amazing charity project too.
