Prince Harry ‘pleased’ with what he’s achieved and has ‘broken free’
Prince Harry stepped back from his royal duties three years ago and will be "pleased" with what he's achieved ahead of his birthday this month, having "broken free from the royal straitjacket", a royal expert said.
The Duke of Sussex made the move to California with his wife Meghan Markle and her native in 2020, shortly after announcing they were stepping back from their roles as working royals.
The couple has remained in the US ever since, residing in Montecito – a town in California where they now class it as "home", despite occasionally returning to the UK for royal events.
On September, 15 Harry will mark his 39th birthday which can be a time of reflection as he looks back on what he's achieved in recent years.
Explaining this, royal expert Jennie Bond spoke exclusively to OK! and said: "Birthdays can often be a time to take stock of your life. I think that if Harry does so, as he enters his fortieth year, he will probably be quite pleased with what he has achieved".
The journalist and TV presenter continued: "He has broken free of the life, the royal straitjacket, that had ground him down in recent years; he has a stunning wife he adores, two children on whom he dotes and a life of luxury away from castles and courtiers.
"I imagine that he is still pinching himself to make certain that he really has left that world behind."
The royal expert added: "But I think he will also acknowledge the regrets he must have about remaining so bitterly estranged from his father and brother.
"Remember that what he and Meghan really wanted was to be half in and half out of official royal life. But the late Queen vetoed that idea and the result is the seemingly unbridgeable rift we now see."
Speaking further about the duke's upcoming birthday, Jennie shared: "September is a difficult time for Harry, he lost his mother as the month began, and he lost his grandmother just a week before his birthday last year.
"So his thoughts and celebrations will always be tempered by those two events."
She went on to say: "Harry carries his mother’s memory in his heart. He has made it crystal clear in his interviews, his documentary series and his book that Diana is always in his thoughts and that her death has had the most profound effect on his life, his mental health and his well being.
"Now, as he approaches a decade (his forties) that she never reached, she will be ever present in his mind."
"I’m sure he will have some very personal thoughts for her on his birthday", the royal expert added.
