Sam Thompson is perfect addition to This Morning as presenting comes naturally to him

Sam Thompson's credentials as a possible This Morning presenter are really strong, according to body language expert Darren Stanton.

On Monday's episode of the ITV programme, I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here's latest King of the Jungle, 31, joined Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle for the Spin to Win section, where a caller had the chance to win £700, £800, £1000, £2000 or £3000, plus a special This Morning gift bag.

In light of this cameo appearance, speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, Darren weighed in on how Sam could fit into a future presenting role, given This Morning's imminent shake-up after Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's departures.

"Sam Thompson would make a perfect addition to This Morning," he began. "Presenting and being on camera comes naturally to him and you get a sense he feels confident and comfortable doing it.

"Sam was very focused and wanted to make Josie and Craig proud. He would bring a lot of energy to the programme as he didn't fail to convey that side of him at all. Sam was full of beans and couldn't stop smiling. He was mesmerised by the whole experience.

"We saw Sam hug Craig as he walked in, but he didn't hug Josie – and I could feel she felt a bit awkward as she was expecting something similar. I couldn't see a strong rapport between them," Darren went on to point out.

"He was a bit overwhelmed by it all but in a good way."

Away from Sam, the specialist also zeroed in on Rylan Clark and Cat Deeley's onscreen chemistry.

He said of their This Morning time together: "Rylan and Cat come across as best friends and it's infectious for the audience. They have a lot of fun on screen and they can let go and be themselves in front of the viewers.

"There's a great level of chemistry here, and as a viewer, you feel like you're in the same room as them. You can tell Rylan loves presenting. It's his passion and he cares a lot about it. Rylan and Cat are very comfortable with each other. He shows Cat a lot of respect, and that is key to success.

"They aren't fighting for airtime, they're just enjoying themselves," reiterated Darren.

As for Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, who pair up regularly, they supposedly "balance each other out perfectly".

Darren remarked on the pair: "They get on well together although they are completely different characters. You can tell they work hard together and are each other's support when they need it.

"They don't come across as nervous or out of place, they’ve adjusted to their roles. I do feel that Alison often takes the lead over Dermot, but he is happy with that. He is happy to step back when it feels right.

"Alison has the stronger personality, even though Dermot has more experience. Alison has more resilience, while Dermot carries himself well with his inner strength."

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
