Shaun Ryder gives health update after being left ‘unable to speak’
Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder has given a health update afer the male menopause “left him unable to speak” or “leave the house”.
Shaun has now said Hormone Replacement Therapy has changed his life as he now uses testosterone gel to boost his libido and energy.
The I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! star admitted that the condition left him “miserable”, and told The Sun that he was “tired all the time” and “could barely be bothered leaving the house”.
Shaun revealed to the publication: “My libido was gone and I was miserable. A routine blood test showed my testosterone levels were at zero.
“I forgot to put on my testosterone gel, and as any woman who's gone through the menopause will know, if you forget your stuff you go absolutely mental. If I haven’t got my testosterone gel, I can’t speak. I can’t leave the house, I can’t make eye contact.”
The male menopause is a term used to describe a time in a man's life where their hormone levels crash and is medically known as andropause.
According to Mayo Clinic: “The term "male menopause" has been used to describe decreasing testosterone levels related to aging”.
Earlier this year, Shaun opened up about his weight-loss journey, revealing that he's lost two stone since taking the controversial weight-loss jab Ozempic.
His weight dropped from 16 stone to 14 stone after he injected the appetite-supressing jab into his stomach.
The star said that it was his return toI'm A Celebrityfor the show's special all-stars series that made him realise he need to lose weight.
Reflecting on his time in the jungle, Shaun said that he struggled in part due to his ill-health.
He toldThe Sun: “Being 60 with hip problems, thyroid problems, f**king testosterone problems and everything else. People have noticed I don't have any f**king eyebrows and eyelashes, from my alopecia. Basically, you know, the jungle slapped me right across the face and said calm down mate."
While Shaun was back on I’m A Celeb, viewers saw him left in agony after his replacement hip “popped out” while he was sleeping, which he “pushed back in”.
Since losing the weight, Shaun said it allowed him to take up cycling again, which helps him stay clean from drugs.
