Sophie Turner suing Joe Jonas for return of kids to England as he hits back amid divorce
Joe Jonas has hit back at his ex Sophie Turner’s bombshell lawsuit after she is allegedly suing him for the return of their two daughters to England.
Amid their tumultuous divorce, Joe has insisted that he did not “abduct” their two daughters. Singer Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner ended their marriage after four years together as Joe filed divorce papers on Tuesday 5 September.
Sophie, who was recently spotted on a girls night with Taylor Swift, has now apparently filed a lawsuit in Manhattan court with the request to secure “the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained”, according to documents obtained by Page Six. The publication said Sophie claimed in the filing that “wrongful retention” began on Wednesday 20 September.
The Game Of thrones star is also said to have claimed that her ex agreed last year, over Christmas 2022, that they would make their “forever home” England, rather than the US, and begin looking for schools for their eldest daughter.
The couple share three year old Willa and their one year old, whose name the couple haven’t confirmed, but she is listed as “D.J.” in the court documents.
They made the move from the US to the UK in April 2023 where the documents note Sophie began a new filming project and Joe began his tour with the Jonas Brothers. The couple supposedly agreed to have their two children travel with Joe as he had more free time around his work commitments compared to Sophie.
Two weeks after Joe filed for a divorce from the actress, Sophie is now allegedly accusing Joe of withholding their daughters’ passports.
The documents are believed to have claimed: “The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother”.
This prompted Sophie to file a lawsuit, according to Page Six, who said she intends to file a similar lawsuit in the UK.
Now, Joe's representatives have released a statement to Page Six where the singer called the lawsuit against him a "harsh legal position" which doesn't align with the co-parenting set up that Joe and Sophie recently discussed when they met up last Sunday.
The rep claimed to the publication: “Less than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately".
"Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK. This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted."
