Coca-Cola's 2023 Christmas Advert Says "The World Needs More Santas"
Now the “Holidays are Coming,” Coca-Cola has launched its latest Christmas advert for 2023, with the heritage beverage brand focusing on “kindness” more than ever before, as opposed to being purely product-centric.
The Coca-Cola Company began its Christmas advertising in the 1920s, unveiling shopping-related ads in magazines centered around the first Santa: a strict-looking Claus, in the vein of Thomas Nast. Fast forward to 1931, Coca‑Cola commissioned Michigan-born illustrator Haddon Sundblom to create the final version of Santa Claus, based on the artist’s original works.
This same Santa Claus is still used today, and has been encapsulated in its most innovative form in Coca-Cola’s latest Christmas ad, “The World Needs More Santas.” The advert showcases the spirit of generosity and goodwill, while a collection of Santas are spotted helping and supporting others, building to understand that in this world of Santas, we see a world full of kindness.
Speaking with Hypebeast, Islam ElDessouky, trademark Coca-Cola global creative, strategy and content lead said: “The world always needs reminders of what makes us more human. The core of humanity is kindness, generosity, and goodwill and I think we need that reminded at this time. It’s a good opportunity to combine it with the Christmas spirit and to deliver the message that everyone has an “Inner Santa,” it’s a great time to use this as a reminder.
Additionally, the all-new Christmas ad from Coca-Cola enlists rising UK musician, Celeste, who following the release of her 2021-released debut album, Not Your Muse, performs the advert’s corresponding song.
