Hedi Slimane's CELINE Gives a Nostalgic Academic Lesson for Summer 2024
CELINE is in its “TOMBOY” era, and we’re here for it. French designer Hedi Slimane has taken his Summer 2024 womenswear collection to academic grounds, revealed through an immersive runway video shot inside Paris’ Bibliothèque Nationale. The French repository holds published titles dating back to the 15th century and is home to priceless historical artefacts.
The French landmark welcomes Slimane’s opulent cast of nostalgic rebels, storming the halls backdropped by LCD Soundsystem‘s “Too Much Love.” Studious pupils bookmarked CELINE-inscribed volumes while preparing for exams, enchanted by painted angels glancing from above. CELINE’s affluent influence nostalgically decked the wooden corridors, opening the show with vibrant patterns and exquisite tailoring.
Brown leopard print came alive on cropped trucker jackets and Miu Miu-esque mini skirts with bulbous gold buttons and dainty lace layers. CELINE’s emblematic leather garments arrived as embossed motorcycle jackets with linear hardware, followed by oversized bombers and straight-cut bottoms with circular ornamentation. Off-duty models strolled through the library with branded headphones around their necks, contrasting party-ready dresses with metallic fringes. Formal tailoring struck a chord with casual elegance, seeing checkered blazers matched with delicate bodysuits and flared denim.
Elsewhere, shimmering jackets and athletic shorts perfectly reflected the “TOMBOY” theme, balancing playfulness with game-ready staples. Monstrous fur coats symbolized supreme CELINE status, while foiled detailing, jumbo fur boots, and petite handbags complete the collection.
