Les Dennis' wife broke down into tears over Strictly news

Les Dennis has revealed his wife burst into tears when he announced he would be a part of Strictly Come Dancing this year.

But thankfully, it had nothing to do with those curse rumours.

The Family Fortunes star, 69, is joining the likes of EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier and Love Island’s Zara McDermott in the ballroom.

Death In Paradise star Les was the 15th and final contestant to be announced as part of the line-up, and has now revealed his wife’s reaction to the news.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘My wife cried, in a good way!’

Les, who married his third wife Claire Nicholson in 2009, added: ‘She was really thrilled, because we were waiting for a while to find out, and then suddenly we got the call.

‘I was away on tour with 42nd Street and I called to tell her that I’d got it.’

Adorable!

Elsewhere, Les told us he’s ready to take on the Strictly challenge.

He shared: ‘As an actor, you do so many different things, I’ve done so many.

‘This is the biggest challenge, and it’s something I’ve really been looking forward to embracing.’

This comes after Les made a colossal blunder and let the cat out of the bag a bit too early.

Before his announcement on Good Morning Britain, Les revealed he had tweeted a playlist titled ‘Strictly by Les Dennis’.

Explaining the blunder, Les confessed to Ben Shepherd on GMB: ‘What happened was, the Strictly producers asked me to send a playlist of songs you might like.

‘I’m totally hopeless with social media and all that so my daughter put my playlist together for me, and put “Strictly by Les Dennis”, so I could send it to my agent by email but I must have done a fat finger error and put it on Twitter instead.’

The playlist features over 140 songs which Les said was a heavy mix of The Beatles, James Taylor and other ‘real old school’ music.

It’s also not the first time Les said he had been approached for Strictly as he had been contacted by producers while he was on Coronation Street.

However, he said actors currently starring on the ITV soap are forbidden from taking part, so was unable to say yes at the time.

In a statement following his official reveal, Les, who used to be married to Amanda Holden, said he was ‘thrilled’ to be taking part.

He said: ‘I’m thrilled to be doing this iconic wonderful show as I approach my 70th birthday!

‘In my career I’ve always gone for challenges outside my comfort zone and this is the ultimate one! Can’t wait.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday, September 16.
