Luca Magliano Named Pitti Immagine Uomo 105's Guest Designer
Luca Magliano will be the guest designer for Pitti Immagine Uomo 105, scheduled to take place from Janaury 9 to 12 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence.
The Bologna-bred designer, who founded his namesake Italian fashion label in 2017, has had quite the successful year, after winning the Karl Lagerfeld Special Jury Prize at the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers and subsequently earning increased attention in Milan’s fashion scene. The specifics surrounding Magliano’s upcoming Florence showcase are still under wraps, though Pitti Uomo organizers disclosed that the designer plans to stage a “special show” at a still-unknown destination.
Notably, the announcement marks a full-circle moment for Magliano, who made his runway debut during Pitti Uomo in 2018, with a collection titled “Wardrobe for a Man in Love.”
On the announcement, Magliano said, “Pitti is where our project was revealed for the first time five years ago, with that enormous mountain of red roses which, thinking about it now, gives me a great sense of dizziness and tenderness: like looking ourselves in the mirror after some time and finding the important things again, even if everything has happened in the meantime. This return home, to people you love and respect, fills me with joy. It is the ideal opportunity to imagine ourselves in the future, more Magliano than ever.”
Magliano, who graduated from Bologna’s Libera Università delle Arti, entered the industry under Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s governance in Milan. He moved home to Bologna in 2013 to take a job on the Ter et Bantine fashion label under Manuela Arcari. Magliano embarked on his first solo venture, the “I Was Naked” womenswear imprint, in 2015. After the line was discontinued, Magliano established his namesake label in 2017, with the help of Arcari.
Lapo Cianchi, Pitti Immagine Director of Communications and Events, said, “There are at least three good reasons why, in agreement with the Camera della Moda, we asked Magliano to show as guest designer at the next edition of Pitti Uomo. The first is that Luca has an outstanding ability to design the cultural and social canons usually associated with Italian fashion in an original way. A central factor in this sense is his penchant for true teamwork.”
He added, “The second is that we believe it interesting, when possible, to take a periodic look – at the careers, and stylistic evolution of designers who made their public debuts at Pitti Uomo (Magliano was the winner of Who’s On Next 2017 and was the Pitti Italics in 2018, ed. note) and then earned international renown. The third is that we like him – his generosity, his enthusiasm, and his educated simplicity – a true Emilian.”
