seconde/seconde/ and Spinnaker to Release a Non-Limited-Edition Variant of Their Sold-Out “Fifty Phantoms”

Update: Announced on Spinnaker’s official Instagram earlier today, the watch brand confirms that they will be offering a blue colorway of its seconde/seconde/ co-created “Fifty Phantoms” timepiece as a non-limited-edition release. The decision was made in response to the aforementioned timepiece being sold out within the same day of its launch on October 27.

“Last week, our « Fifty Fathoms » launch with seconde/seconde was a success, but also… some sort of a mess,” Spinnaker writes, followed by addressing errors and issues that they experienced internally, leading to many expressing how they felt “unfairly treated.”

In response, Spinnaker attempts to make it up to its supporters with a blue “Fifty Phantoms” timepiece, which will be opened for pre-ordering from November 4 -6. While the window will be open for only 50 hours, it won’t be a limited production. The watch will retail for $370 USD and is looking for a delivery timeframe sometime in March 2024.

Original Story: On October 27, Spinnaker and seconde/seconde/ officially launched its limited collaborative timepiece, the “Fifty Phantoms” Fleuss Automatic. The 670-limited timepiece was met with incredible reception and quickly sold out within the same day of its launch.

Synonymous with the Paris-based watch customizer’s signature tongue-in-cheek approach, the watch played on the name of the iconic “Fifty Fathoms.” As it was unveiled ahead of Halloween, the “Fifty Phantoms” encapsulated the trick-or-treat spirit with an incredibly fun dial that was decked with 50 custom-molded, lume-filled ghosts. The ghosts are applied in layers to exude the visual effect with depths, this is further enhanced in its luminous form, as the ghosts alternate between blue and green Super-LumiNova. In addition, where it usually indicates water resistance on the dial has been replaced with “No Feet” on the “Fifty Phantoms,” — a play on the ghost anatomy.

Measuring 43mm in diameter, the watch case was crafted from sturdy, stainless steel, while its unidirectional turning bezel featured a hardened glass insert. On the caseback, its NH38 Japanese automatic caliber is partially viewable behind a large ghost motif, which spins with every movement of the wrist.

Available in two colorways, the spooky timepiece was offered in Phantom Black with a black bezel, and Phantom Grey, which featured a “ghost” bezel in a washed-gray hue. The watches were accompanied by a simple two-stitch leather strap in black, as well as an additional perforated rubber strap.
