Wealthy lifestyle guru slammed for 'tone deaf' post about 'iceberg cocktails' aboard arctic luxury cruise, more news
Cocktail critique
Martha Stewart’s being branded as “tone deaf” and worse, thanks to her recent post from a luxury cruise around Greenland and Iceland. Sharing a photo of herself aboard a ship, drink in hand, the multi-millionaire lifestyle guru wrote in the caption that her Swan Hellenic Cruise crew had just ventured out on a zodiac “into a very beautiful fjord on the east coast of greenland.” She added, “We actually captured a small iceberg for our cocktails tonight.” In addition to Martha’s toast-ready selfie, she shared pics of the aforementioned iceberg on a rolling cart and scenery from the fjord. It was not a great look, according to commenters.
“Martha the ice caps are melting don’t put them in your drink,” one Instagram user admonished her in the comments. Another suggested her caption “sounds like a line from a dystopian novel.” A third user wrote, in part: “I generally love Martha and the excesses of her life … but wealthy white people drinking their iceberg cocktails while the planet is in flames is a bit tone deaf.” Joked another: “If you can’t find fresh icebergs for your cocktails store bought is fine.”
According to a study published in May 2023 (per Fox Weather), a major Greenland glacier is “melting faster than previously thought” as climate change drives record-high temperatures.

Eminem fandom gone wrong
Republican presidential candidate and Eminem fan Vivek Ramaswamy has been warned against using the rapper’s music on the campaign trail. Vivek, 38, was recently caught on video rapping along to Eminem’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” during an appearance at the Iowa State Fair. The rapping moment came after Vivek told an audience “Lose Yourself” is his favorite “walk off” song — prompting a sound technician to play the track. Vivek quickly began rapping along to the music.
The moment must have caught Eminem’s attention, because BMI, his performing rights organization, soon sent Vivek’s campaign a cease-and-desist letter. DatedAug. 23, addressed to campaign attorney Stephen Roberts and reprinted by the Daily Mail on Aug. 28, the letter instructed Vivek to quit using Em’s music, citing the rapper’s objection. “BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto,” the letter asserted. Vivek, 38, reacted on X (formerly Twitter), teasing, “Will The REAL Slim Shady Please Stand Up? He didn’t just say what I think he did, did he?” Campaign spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin later told CNN, “To the American People’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real slim shady.”

‘Cruel joke’
Former “Bachelorette” contestant Josh Seiter, 36, is very much alive, despite the appearance of an announcement that seemingly confirmed his death on Instagram. On Aug. 28, just days after Josh shared a selfie with the caption, “surviving depression and anxiety one day at a time with a smile,” a post on his account surfaced featuring the “tragic news” of his alleged “unexpected passing.” The announcement went on to imply Josh’s death was related to his well-known mental health struggles, calling him “an incredibly bright light in an increasingly dim world.”
The next day, however, the post was gone. It was replaced with a video of Josh, explaining he’s fine — he was simply hacked and lost access to his account temporarily. Josh, who appeared on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of “The Bachelorette” in 2015, called the hack a “cruel joke.”

Firework mishap
Amid an ugly trend of fans hurling things at performers onstage, singer Ellie Goulding was reportedly hit in the face by a firework during her recent set at the Victorious Festival, which ran Aug. 25 – 27 in Portsmouth, England. That’s according to a fan who caught the moment on video and posted it on TikTok — noting that Ellie kept right on singing in spite of the apparent mishap. The pop star was singing her hit, “Miracle” when the pyrotechnics display ignited and seemingly struck her face, according to People. She reacted with a chuckle, hollered, “F***!,” then got on with the show, belting out five more tunes.
“omg i didn’t realise that’s why she laughed,” one person wrote in the comments. “i went there yesterday i [saw] that but didn’t know she got hit,” chimed in another.
Searching for Ashton
Hugh Jackman is asking for help contacting a boy named Ashton who’s set to be the only blind student at the middle school where he’s starting this fall. After spotting a video by Ashton’s mom on the Our Blind Side Instagram account in August, Hugh reposted the clip on his Instagram Stories. In a caption over the video, the star asked “everyone here at @goodnews_movement” for their assistance. “If you know how I can be in touch with Ashton please dm me. I’d like to wish him an amazing new school year,” he wrote, according to People. Hugh signed off with, “Thanks for the help! HJ.”
The video, which has now gone viral on social media, shows Ashton making his way around the school as his mom explains, in part: “Being the only blind student was hard in elementary school and I know it’s going to be even harder in middle school for my son.” She then urges parents to “talk to your kids and tell them about children with disabilities this year. Tell them about my son who practiced walking around the school all summer just to prepare for his first day. Teach them to not only be kind but to look past differences this year and make a new friend like my son.” She adds: “Inclusion starts at home and parents should talk to their kids about these things before sending them to school every year. It will make a difference for my son if you have these kind of talks with your kids.”
Kanye throwback
With the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards just around the corner, Taylor Swift cracked a little joke about her infamous Kanye West exchange of yore while performing in Mexico City on Aug. 27. The pop star was getting ready to perform “Champagne Problems” from her 2021 album “Evermore,” when the Eras Tour crowd erupted in a chant of Taylor’s name. Video shared on social media shows the chanting was so persistent, Taylor was forced to pause. She ultimately used the opportunity to take a little swipe at Ye, who jumped onstage at the 2009 VMAs when Taylor was about to accept her award for the year’s best female video, an honor Ye said should have gone to Beyonce.
“It’s the best way to be interrupted, by the way, just people chanting your name,” Taylor mused during her show over the weekend. “It’s really the only way to be interrupted — and I would know,” she quipped. Taylor’s up for a potentially record-breaking eight VMAs at the 2023 awards ceremony on Sept. 12.
