BBCs Strictly Come Dancings Nikita Kandas life from Take Me Out to Love Island star date
Nikita Kanda is one of the stars set to join the latest celeb line-up of 2023's Strictly Come Dancing.
But the star has already had a whirlwind life of fame since becoming a popular voice on radio and a TV presenter in her own right.
She has a roster of TV and radio experience behind her which will stand her in good stead as she joins Love Island star Zara McDermott, TV's Angela Scanlon and many more celebs on the Strictly ballroom dancefloor this September.
Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Strictly star's exciting life including her Take Me Out stint and cheeky Love Island date…
Nikita, who was born in 1995, is a popular radio presenter and broadcaster.
She grew up in Birmingham and studied film and media at university. Her first post-grad role was working on Zee TV and presented the drive time show on Asian Star 101.6FM.
But Nikita's taste of the spotlight continued when she took part in West End productions including The Wiz, Bugsy Malone, Annie and Pocahontas.
Then in 2019, she appeared on the final series of Paddy McGuinness’s ITV show Take Me Out as one of the 30 women presented with a man to potentially date.
Nikita is now best known for hosting the BBC Asian Network’s Breakfast Show, but she previously presented the Saturday afternoon show on the network after becoming a proud member of the BBC Asian Network team in 2021.
She won the role as permanent breakfast show host in 2022 after becoming a hit with listeners thanks to popular interviews with stars including singer Akon and Bake Off winner Nadia Hussein.
Kanda previously said of working in radio: "It’s the only job that I have ever jumped out of bed at 4am for because I love radio. Every day is different you never know what you’re going to get."
Throughout her career, Nikita has interviewed a host of famous faces including Killing Eve star Sandra Oh, Bridgerton actors Kate Sharma and Charithra Chandran, Marvel actress Awkwafina and pop star Nick Jonas.
She also regularly appears on the BBC's weekday series The One Show to discuss about a range of topics.
Nikita has also recently been nominated for Presenter of the Year 2023 at the Asian Awards in recognition of her career success.
Plus last year, she revealed a surprising fact about her love life.
While on air, she was quizzed about her connection with a Love Island star before she admitted that she dated Love Island contestant Jay Younger, an investment analyst from Edinburgh, who appeared on the hit ITV2 dating show last summer.
Confirming the rumour on the radio, she said: "I'm actually getting flustered right now. I did go on a date with Jay from Love Island.
She went on to explain they only went on one date and Jay had "good chat."
The news of Nikita's Strictly debut was announced on her breakfast show on the BBC Asian Network.
Ahead of taking to the dance floor Nikita has said that being on the BBC show is a "dream come true."
She has told the BBC: "I can’t believe I’m going to be on Strictly. This is a dream come true.
"I’m still pinching myself. I don’t think it will properly sink in until I step onto the dancefloor. I can’t wait to get glammed up and get out there. Throw the glitter on me!”
